El objetivo de este artículo es analizar el uso del término cáncer desde una perspectiva social y su representación en la prensa española a comienzos del siglo xx (1903-1912), en los periódicos La Vanguardia y ABC. A partir de la hemeroteca digital de ambos medios se seleccionaron todas y cada una de las veces que se pudo identificar el término «cáncer» y su aplicación metafórica desde una perspectiva de problemática social, procediéndose a la descripción de los rasgos significativos y al análisis del discurso. Encontramos un uso de la palabra cáncer como metáfora social a lo largo del periodo estudiado, siendo común extender la metáfora del cuerpo enfermo a situaciones de orden político o social. El cáncer es una enfermedad con un gran impacto en nuestra sociedad, cuya utilización metafórica es descriptiva y expresa el deseo del cambio, pero su empleo puede comportar la estigmatización de los enfermos afectados por esta patología. Abstract The objective of this article is to analyze the use of the term cancer from a social perspective and its representation in the Spanish press at the beginning of the 20th Century (1903-1912), in the newspapers La Vanguardia and ABC. From the digital mass media library, each and every one of the times that the term «cancer» and its metaphorical application could be identified from a perspective of the social problem was selected, proceeding to the description of the essential features and the discourse analysis. A use of the word cancer as a social metaphor was found throughout the studied period, being common to extend the metaphor of the sick body in situations of political or social order. Cancer is a disease with a great impact on our society, metaphorical use is descriptive and expresses the desire for change, but its use may involve the stigmatization of patients affected by this pathology. This document presents the results of the second evaluation and validation iteration of the CAPABLE prototypes as defined in previous deliverable D7.1. In this validation process, an updated version of the WP6 prototype has been evaluated applying the two methods presented in D7.1: Interviews with patients and relatives. These interviews aimed to collect feedback from the end-users of the Patient App: melanoma and kidney cancer patients during the treatment phase. Given the broader applicability of the app to any type of cancer patient, this iteration included also other types of oncological patients, cancer survivors (treatment finished since no more than 2 years), and experts in patients' needs, such as caregivers. Overall, 17 patients and 2 caregivers have been interviewed. Interviews with healthcare professionals (HCPs). These interviews aimed to collect overall feedback about both doctors' and patients' solutions, understand if the clinical and patients' needs are covered, and revise the core functionalities that have been proposed in the current prototype. A total of 11 health professionals have been interviewed. We present the results of the 2 executed studies. The protocols of each study are attached in the annex. Abstract

Background
Formaldehyde and xylene are two hazardous chemicals widely used in pathology laboratories all over the world. The aim of this work was to survey a large volume pathology lab, measuring exposure of workers and residents to formaldehyde and xylene, and verify the efficacy of the undertaken preventive actions and the accomplishment with occupational limit values.


Methods
Environmental, personal, and biological monitoring of exposure to formaldehyde and xylene in different lab rooms and in 29 lab attendants was repeated yearly from 2017 to 2020. Continuous monitoring of airborne formaldehyde was performed to evaluate the pattern of airborne concentrations while specific tasks were performed. Several risk management and mitigation measures, including setting a new grossing room, reducing the number of samples to be soaked in formaldehyde, and improving the lab practices and equipment, such as the use of chemical hoods, were undertaken after each monitoring campaign, based on the results obtained from the exposure monitoring.


Results
Significant exposures to formaldehyde in pathologists and residents, especially during the grossing of samples, were observed in the first 2 years, with exposure exceeding the occupational exposure limit value; the following surveys showed that the risk management and mitigation measures were effective in reducing airborne concentrations and personal exposure. Xylene, assessed with both environmental and biological monitoring, was always well below the occupational exposure limit value and biological limit values, respectively.


Conclusion
Critical exposure to air formaldehyde in attendants of a pathology laboratory could be reduced with the re-organization of lab spaces, new and improved work procedures, and awareness and training initiatives.

The document shows the activities of market research performed in the second half of the first year of the project. Differently from the initial deliverable (D8.1): the focus of the market research has been to study the specific costs of kidney and melanoma cancer, and the possible barriers and success criteria to market to then continue the CAPABLE roadmap to the adoption following the CEHRES method presented in D8.1. The document also presents an update of the technology vigilance, which also contains a specific selection of solutions that are relevant competitors of CAPABLE and a study of the existing solution in the 2 hospitals of CAPABLE (ICSM and NKI-NVL). The aim of this deliverable is to define the requirements of the CAPABLE system. These requirements include clinical requirements regarding the clinical scope of decision-support and its content (knowledge base), patient and clinician user needs and requirements, and technical system requirements for the different system components. Following our iterative development approach for the CAPABLE system, this document presents the majority of the functional and non-functional requirements.
