Objective: recognizing the scientific productions that approach night shift work carried out by the nursing
staff in hospitals. Method: this is a bibliographic, narrative, exploratory and descriptive research. The search
was developed in the Virtual Health Library, from July to August 2012. Results: studies point to the fact
that most workers are married women with spouses and/or children, who have to do housework and deal
with their profession, in one or two jobs. Despite of the negative repercussion of the night shift work upon
the health of the workers, they often do this shift because of their choice/personal need or professional and
not by imposition of the institution. Conclusion: there is a growing interest in this topic, mainly in terms of
repercussions of this work shift for the health of nursing professionals. It should be highlighted that it is
fundamental to reduce these repercussions, as well as to diminish the hospitalization rates in a way to
contribute for the promotion of health and satisfaction at work.

Objective: recognizing the expectations of patients submitted to myocardium revascularization surgery at the time of hospital discharge. Method: a descriptive-exploratory study of aqualitative approach carried out with ten patients in post-operative myocardium revascularization surgery of a university hospital in the south of Brazil. The data were collected from July to August, 2012, through a semi-structured interview and were analyzed based on content analysis. Results: the results were grouped into a category that focuses on patients' expectations facing the recovery process and returning to daily activities. It was found out that this phase is challenging for the subjects, in special with feelings of anxiety and worry about the future, besides having weaknesses in relation to the knowledge about changes of habits imposed by the process of illness. Conclusions: surgery causes a significant impact on the patients' lives, thus being necessary the effective intervention by the nursing staff, in order to optimizing the recovery process.

Abstract Introduction: the effects on human health of environmental changes brought about by the installation of a hydroelectric power plant may be physical or mental. Objective: to identify health impacts from the implementation of the Foz do Chapecó Hydroelectric Power Plant in the perspectives of the affected families. Methodology: a qualitative study was conducted with farming families affected by the reservoir of the Foz do Chapecó Hydroelectric Power Plant. Results: the transformation of the environment generated impacts on human health engendering illnesses like depression, hypertension, insomnia, and alcoholism. Conclusion: results presented in this paper indicate that, in addition to environmental and social aspects, questions relating to the health of the affected population must be taken into account when assessing the impacts generated by the installation of a hydroelectric power plant.

ABSTRACT Objective: to know how autonomy is constituted in the nurse's professional practice in the hospital context. Methods: Qualitative analytical study, based on Foucault's methodological theoretical framework. The empirical material consisted of articles published in the Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem and narrative interviews conducted with 18 nurses from a public hospital in southern Brazil. Data collection took place between December 2017 and May 2018, being analyzed through Foucauldian discourse analysis. Results: Autonomy in the professional practice of nurses goes through the core of knowledge, the political positioning and the working conditions. These factors are revealed as power instruments in the construction of nurse governability. Final Considerations: It is believed that the investment focused on the debate of the nurse's autonomy interfaces could raise new attitudes about professional practice and favor the transformation of nursing practice.

Objective: Know the perceptions and needs of the relatives of patients hospitalized in an intensive care unit. Method: This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Data were collected from relatives of patients hospitalized in an intensive care unit of a university hospital, through a semi-structured interview. The findings were analyzed according to the Content Analysis theoretical framework. Results: Data show that the relatives experience contradictory feelings with regard to the intensive care unit. Although the relatives perceive it as a sector where fear of death prevails, they also see it as the sector where one finds the best quality of care. The relatives show, particularly, a need for interaction with the multiprofessional team, through an effective communication with the professionals. Conclusion: One concludes that there's a need for establishing an effective dialogic process along with the relatives of patients hospitalized in an intensive care unit, in order to enable them to experience this period in a smoother manner.

Objective: to recognize the facilities and difficulties met in the everyday work routine of the nursing staff of an adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Method: exploratory-descriptive study of qualitative approach. The data was collected with 11 nursing workers of an adult ICU of a university hospital, between June and July, 2012, through semi-structured interview. The findings were analyzed based on content analysis. Results: several factors interfere in the development of the work, among them, facilities are: the use of technology and the small and restricted environment. Obstacles faced by the subjects were: personal conflicts, lack of commitment among colleagues and lack of human resources and of materials. Conclusion: despite the difficulties found during the development of ICU work, this activity is still seen as something rewarding by the nursing workers.

Objective: To know the perceptions of family members of children with neoplasia who work as rural workers
about the disease process and the implications of the use of pesticides. Method: Data were collected through
structured interviews guided by a sociodemographic form and semi-structured interviews during the months
of October 2014 to January 2015. Transcripts results were analyzed based on the proposed framework for
thematic analysis. Results: The results emerged from two thematic categories entitled Perceptions of family
outside the child's disease process and Perceptions of family against the use of pesticides. Conclusion: It is
believed that the inclusion of the discussion on the issue of pesticides in rural activity allows new perspectives,
aiming to minimize the environmental crisis, the disease process and expand the understanding of the healthdisease
process as a result also of integration human beings and the environment.

Objective: To describe the socioeconomic profile of rural workers with cancer hospitalized at a university hospital. Methods: descriptive study with quantitative approach, performed from August 2013 to January 2014, through search in the records and active search for patients that were within the inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: we interviewed 59 rural workers, coming from different hinterland municipalities, and worked with different types of crops. A large proportion of respondents reported that they used pesticides, not using PPE. The predominant type of cancer found were the neoplasms of the digestive system. Conclusions: the use of pesticides is a reality for the workers investigated, leading to the exposure to occupational hazards. Health workers need to implement healthcare strategies for those workers, in order to assist in minimizing the risks of the occupational exposure to the pesticides.

Objective: To identify the medical waste production rates (kg.bed-1.day-1) for the waste groups A, B, D (including recyclables) and E, and to verify seasonal influence in the generation of waste. Methods: Data were collected by weighing the waste, during seven consecutive days for four weeks, with each week corresponding to a season. Results: The waste production rate presented the following values in kg.bed-1.day-1 for each group: A: 0.831, B: 0.088, D: 2,607, D-Recyclable: 0.525 and E: 0.102. Based on the analysis of variance (ANOVA) test, it was not found evidence that seasonality influences with the generation of the waste. Conclusion: Hospitals with similar numbers of beds have divergent values for the waste production rates, therefore it was not possible to use a reference rate for comparison with other hospitals. Finally, the ANOVA test did not found evidence that seasonality influences the generation of the waste.

To identify how prescribed and true tasks of nurses in a surgical clinic inpatient unit occur. Qualitative study case research carried out with 12 nurses in a surgical clinic inpatient unit. Data were collected through documentary research, systematic observation and semi-structured interview. Content analysis was carried out from the perspective of the ergology framework. Analysis of data revealed the emergence of a category: 'Nurse's work in a surgical clinic inpatient unit: between prescribed and true tasks'. The nurse's work is characterized by pre-established routines and governed by rules and legislation. However, the true task is made evident as the worker is faced with crucial self-giving while micromanaging activities and effecting renormalizations. Nurses' work is actually borne during true tasks within their frequent endeavor to adhere to the prescribed work. ; Este estudo teve o objetivo de identificar como ocorre o trabalho prescrito e o trabalho real do enfermeiro em unidade de internação clínica cirúrgica. Uma pesquisa qualitativa, tipo estudo de caso, foi realizada com 12 enfermeiros em unidade de internação clínica cirúrgica. Os dados foram coletados por meio de pesquisa documental, observação sistemática e entrevista semiestruturada. Realizou-se análise de conteúdo, sob a perspectiva do referencial da ergologia. Após a análise dos dados, emergiu a categoria "Trabalho do enfermeiro em unidade hospitalar: entre o prescrito e o real". O trabalho do enfermeiro caracteriza-se por rotinas preestabelecidas e regido por normas e legislações. No entanto, evidencia-se o trabalho real, na medida em que profissional se confronta com dramáticas do uso de si, microgestionando as atividades e efetivando renormalizações. Concluiu-se que o trabalho do enfermeiro é efetivado durante o trabalho real, mas, por vezes, os enfermeiros remetem-se mais a adesão ao trabalho prescrito.

Objective: Identify the prevalence and factors associated with the occurrence of accidents at work with hospital housekeeping personnel. Method: Cross-sectional study involving 157 workers from a public university hospital of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Data collection occurred in 2013, it was used a form for socio-demographic, labor, habits, health and occupational accidents characterization. Results: In the last worked year, prevalence of occupational accidents was of 17,8%. Occurred with the highest percentage of male workers (26,3%), those with between 19 and 34 years (21,6%). Sharps injuries and falls stood out, his hands and fingers were the body parts most affected. Conclusion: None of evaluated factors presented itself meaningfully associated to occupational accidents. The population size may have affected this result.
