The threat that doomsday religious movements pose to national & international security is studied. An overview of millennialism illustrates that not all millennial groups anticipate a violent or apocalyptic end to humankind. Distinguishing characteristics of doomsday religious movements include the adherence to religious doctrines that separate the world into good & evil forces & foresee an apocalyptic end to humankind, presence of a highly charismatic leader, & tendency to interact with government agencies in confrontational or violent manners. Specific threats that such groups pose to public safety are considered, & various activities that indicate that such groups are intensifying their activities are noted. The case of the Order of the Solar Temple demonstrates how religious groups transform into doomsday religious movements. It is concluded that international law enforcement must remain watchful over such movements since they potentially possess the nature to quickly become violent. 1 Appendix, 15 References. J. W. Parker
