It came and went in the blink of an eye and what seemed like a brilliant future for Marxist Anthropology in the mid‐1970s now lies in a grave of dead‐ended approaches bearing the epitaph 'Political Economy'—the sign which for Marx summed up all that was critically in error in capitalist and capitalizing analysis, hence his sub‐title to Capital, "A Critique of Political Economy."

It is stated that the issue of privacy in PO res is a very real one, & that it manifests itself in a wide variety of ways, most particularly in the interview situation. It may also obtain when sloppy procedures are used in screening, hiring, & supervising coders, typists, clerical personnel, & other employees who have access to personal data collection in opinion surveys. Today, little has been done in informing the public about the work done by opinion res'ers & explaining the soc value of inquiries, esp in the commercial field. Better public relations are urged to tell the story of the contributions PO res makes to improving consumer products. Each yr some surveys which can make a more concrete contribution to society should be donated as a public service by large commercial & academic res groups. Modified Author's Summary.
