During the COVID-19 pandemic, neuropsychiatric disorders have been diagnosed both in the acute phase, and in the aftermath of this disease. Inpatients, as well as outpatients recently diagnosed with mild, moderate or severe forms of Coronavirus infection have reported neuropsychiatric manifestations with variable duration, symptoms that could be directly or indirectly related to the viral pathogenic agent. Patients who are recovering from the acute phase of COVID-19 also may exhibit various psychopathological manifestations, during the so-called "post-COVID-19 syndrome" or "long COVID-19 syndrome". Explanations regarding the onset of this type of clinical manifestations and the SARS-CoV-2 infection are extremely diverse, ranging from biological factors (e.g., direct central nervous system viral activity, cerebral hypo-oxygenation, high level of inflammatory response) to psycho-social stressors (e.g., isolation, fear of death, anxiety related to possible somatic complications or sequelae). Objectives: The primary objective of this article was to analyze psychiatric manifestations in patients with acute COVID-19 disease and in patients during post-COVID-19 phase. The secondary objective was to propose a conceptual framework for the evaluation and treatment of these patients. Methods: Patients included in this analysis were screened positive for COVID-19 infection in the last 6 months before their first psychiatric examination. These patients were further evaluated to detect any personal history of psychiatric disorders, somatic comorbidities, or significant concomitant pharmacological treatments. Specific scales for the measurement of symptoms severity and functional impairment were administered in all patients. Results: Five patients were included in this analysis, one during the acute phase of COVID-19 infection, and four patients were evaluated after the complete remission of this disease. Hyperactive delirium, mild neurocognitive disorder, major depressive episode, panic disorder with agoraphobia, or acute psychotic disorder were the main diagnoses in these patients. All patients received adequate treatment and they were monitored using psychological scales until symptoms remission or stabilisation. Conclusions: Psychosocial stressors, neurobiological changes, systemic inflammatory reaction, and individual vulnerability factors may contribute to a diathesis-stress model for psychiatric disorders onset within the acute phase or after the remission of acute manifestations in COVID-19-diagnosed patients

As reported by literature, rheumatoid arthritis is a rheumatic disease with an increased risk of developing cardiovascular complications. Early detection of atherosclerosis by non-invasive techniques represent a current challenge of patient management. Current EULAR guidelines recommend careful monitoring of cardiovascular risk factors by stratification of patients and strict control of rheumatic disease activity to reduce it. The classic evaluation of intimamedium thickness (IMT) was completed by quantifying the degree of inflammation of the carotid plate using positron emission tomography or the degree of coronary calcifications by calculating Agatston score using Coronary Computer Tomography. These modern investigation techniques allow identification of several subclinical stages of atherosclerosis, the interest in their early detection resulting from the fact that, in this stage, through specific measures, the cardiovascular complications can be prevented.

Normal pressure hydrocephalus – Diagnosis and therapeutic challenges

Several problems related to coagulation dysfunctions induced by selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) were reported in literature, as serotonin is widely distributed in the human organism and it has significant contribution in various vascular and hematologic regulatory mechanisms. First, a systematic review has integrated main results from the field of SSRIs and anticoagulants pharmacologic interactions. Secondly, a retrospective analysis was performed, based on the medical charts of hospitalized patients diagnosed with SSRI-treated depressive disorders, who also received concomitant anticoagulant treatment with acenocoumarol. Platelet count, prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, and bleeding time were monitored during hospitalization and their values before and after SSRI initiation treatment were compared.

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic challenged the authorities into taking measures that limit the spread of the virus in the community. TAMEC project (Advanced Community Approaches to Epidemic Management) developed a system that detects the contacts of patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and alerts them using mobile applications. It allows real-time analysis of confirmed patients and identified contacts, early detection of new outbreaks, and provides decisionmaking information to prevent viral transmission. The system uses its patent for homomorphic encryption, a method that allows to process and manipulate data in an encrypted format, without having access to the original data. Thus, the solution proposed in the TAMEC project fully respects the privacy rules of citizens imposed by the EU, using the concept of privacy preservation. Our solution offers the possibility to identify and validate a risk score that could become an extremely helpful tool in the stratification of COVID-19 patients. The TAMEC system is innovative in its simplicity and ability to facilitate the prevention of the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the community.

Left ventricle systolic function is an essential parameter in different clinical scenarios and the usual methods available for its assessment are sometime suboptimal, depending on the filling conditions of the heart. Therefore, the development and implementation in clinical practice of a new parameter for assessing left ventricle contractile function is desirable. Mechanical work defined as energy transferred to or from an object via the application of force along a displacement seems to be a promising method for myocardial performance estimation. Although initially this parameter was calculated on the left ventricle volume-pressure curve estimated by cardiac catheterization, an easier method considering non-invasive left ventricle pressure and global longitudinal strain assessed by speckle tracking echocardiography was developed recently. Myocardial work offers information regarding the segmental and global function of the left ventricle, and it is considered a more sensitive marker for assessing left ventricle performance compared to ejection fraction and global longitudinal strain. Its applicability in various cardiac pathologies was demonstrated recently in several studies and its use in every day practice may bring important additional information for clinical decision making

Abstract: Demons-Meigs syndrome is a rare benign pathology that can be confused with other benign and malignant pathologies. The clinical picture is marked by an increase in abdominal volume, pelvic-abdominal pain, but it can also be associated with breathing difficulties due to excess ascites fluid and pleurisy. Imaging paraclinical examination easily reveals the three components: ascites, pleurisy, and ovarian mass. Surgical treatment helps to relieve symptoms in a relatively short time. Erectile dysfunction (ED) has an intricate pathogenesis, with organic and psychosocial factors contributing to the
shaping of its clinical manifestations and functional impairment. ED disrupts not only an individual's sexual life but may also
contribute to impairments of self-esteem, social functioning, quality of life, overall well-being, mood, etc. The assessment process
and therapeutic interventions should be adequate to the specific profile of each patient, therefore an interdisciplinary approach
is usually recommended, in order to find the vulnerability factors, recent triggers, psychiatric and organic comorbidities or causes,
and elements that contribute to maintaining the sexual dysfunction, such as lifestyle factors, interpersonal conflicts, or
inadequate sexual education. This narrative review explores the evidence-based approaches to structured psychiatric,
psychological, and therapeutical assessment in patients with ED, and the most validated psychosocial treatments available. The
results support the use of recognized diagnostic criteria within DSM-5TR and ICD-11, together with structured instruments (scales,
questionnaires, and inventories), in a multidisciplinary approach. The cognitive model and cognitive-emotional model of ED
support the initiation of cognitive-behavioral therapy in these patients. Other interventions, like the PLISSIT model, sexual
therapy, couple therapy, and sexual-focused psychoeducation are also supported by evidence. In conclusion, ED requires a
combined, psychiatric, psychologic, psychotherapeutic, and organic-oriented assessment, with the purpose of tailoring the
treatment to the patient's particularities.

"Urinary lithiasis is a common pathology in the modern era. Its significance lies in the possible complications that may arise as well as in its potential for recurrence. The treatment and prevention of recurrences of urinary lithiasis often require the intervention of several specialists: urologists, nephrologists, endocrinologists, nutritionists, biochemists, etc. In the last 20 years, the treatment strategy for urinary lithiasis has changed, with minimally invasive methods replacing laparoscopic or open surgery. These are effective and have rare complications. Whichever treatment method is chosen, it may be necessary to temporarily divert the upper urinary tract by inserting double J catheters for preventive, curative, or palliative purposes. Ureteral catheters have had to be improved over time to avoid two major incidents: their migration and colonization. Various materials were used, varying the shape, size, length, guide as well as approaches. The urinary infection-urolithiasis association is frequent, without always being able to specify the cause-effect relationship. The rate of urinary colonization appears to be influenced by the presence of stent colonization as well as the time since the implant. The association of chronic diseases or emergency insertion is associated with an increased risk of urinary colonization. Complications induced by the time of the double J catheter being implanted are rare, and minor and disappear with its removal. In the case of failure to insert a double J ureteral catheter, the alternative would be to perform an ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrostomy. Double J ureteral catheter insertion is an effective minimally invasive option in the treatment of obstructive urolithiasis. "

Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal condition, characterized by a microarchitectural degradation of bone density and quality, giving low resistance and an increased risk of fracture. Osteoporosis is an important public health problem, with considerable medical, social and economic impact. Data accumulated in recent years demonstrate a significant incidence of osteoporosis in the group of patients with major collagen diseases; of these, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is the prototype of autoimmune disease in which osteoporosis and associated complications have a significant clinical impact. Although additional studies are needed to deepen the relationship between SLE - osteoporosis - associated fractures, we believe that these patients should be managed from the early stages of the disease.

A symbiotic association between humans and microbes has been established over time. Disruptions in gut homeostasis have been linked to immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. Factors such as genetics, environment, diet, age, and medication play a major role in shaping the intestinal microbiome. An altered gut microbiome seems to modulate the progression and severity of inflammatory rheumatic diseases. Disruptions in the eubiotic state of the intestinal microbiome might promote intestinal and extraintestinal autoimmune and inflammatory disorders, although the mechanisms involved are not well understood. In this review, we provide a general overview of several studies concerning intestinal microbiome perturbations and their implications in rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and systemic lupus erythematosus. Furthermore, we discuss the relationship between diet, intestinal microbiota, and inflammation.

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is becoming popular between the bariatric procedures. There are few studies available in the literature about LSG impact on esophageal motility, with debatable results. Technically, it modifies the anatomy of the esophago-gastric junction; it can damage the phreno-esophageal ligament and decrease the lower esophageal sphincter pressure that will predispose to reflux. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is already common in obese patients due to frequent hiatal hernia, high intraabdominal pressure, increased transient lower esophageal sphincter relaxations (TLESR), altered esophageal motility and poor esophageal clearance. LSG can worsen gastroesophageal reflux disease, but also the weight loss achieved after it and the decrease of acid production in the small gastric pouch will probably reduce the GERD symptoms. Dysphagia and odynophagia were reported after sleeve gastrectomy, but usually associated with anatomical narrowing of the gastric sleeve, caused by esophageal dismotility or secondary to diabetes mellitus, low tiamine level, the use of opioids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, even hypothyroidism. In addition to upper GI tract endoscopy, high-resolution esophageal manometry (HRM) should be required for all patients planning to undergo a LSG, and in the follow-up period according to the contractility pattern.

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease, characterized by the appearance of demyelinating lesions with inflammatory character in the CNS. Given the unpredictable evolution of the disease, numerous attempts have been initiated to find some pathogenic factors and by default targeted treatment methods. The intestinal microbiota of these patients is often significantly altered compared to the healthy population and given the complex connections between the intestine and the central nervous system, the idea of causality between dysbiosis and this condition was launched. The intestinal mucosa represents the interface between the external environment and the organism, so that it is considered the starting point of some local immunological processes but with systemic resonance, especially neurological. The classic medication scheme widely used to treat MS nowadays can also affect the integrity of the intestinal mucosa by breaking the fine balance at this level. Data from recent studies around the subject open new treatment opportunities around preserving the intestinal microbiota and strategies like vitamin A intake and fat-soluble vitamin D supplementation, probiotic complexes or faecalis microbiota transplantation appear more promising and easier to apply in daily clinical practice.

Non ‑melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) comprises squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), basal cell carcinoma (BCC), and severalrare skin tumors (i.e., Extramammary Paget's disease), being the most common malignancy-affecting people worldwide. Itrepresents the majority of skin cancers and a significant percentage of all malignancies. Despite increasing public awarenessand scientific interest, the incidence of NMSC is constantly increasing. Even though most NMSC`s are associated with lessaggressive behavior, they can still be invasive locally and cause extensive damage to neighboring structures, inducingsignificant morbidity. In addition, different types and subtypes of NMSC tend to have frequent recurrences and may have significantmetastatic potential. As a direct consequence, NMSC has become an important issue for healthcare systems with a significantsocio ‑economic impact.
