; Set in the Atlantic outskirts of Lisbon, Estoril was for centuries renowned for the thermal springs whose waters were linked to the 12th-century legend of a horse whose vitality was regained after bathing in them. The blessed liquid was chemically studied from the mid-1700s on and experimented by King Joseph I. The prestigious royal presence and Estoril's coastal setting justified the growth of attendants across the 19th century and the improvement of bath house and lodging facilities, especially from 1880 onwards. By 1913 the entrepreneur Fausto Figueiredo purchased estates and projected an international resort matching Europe's elite's standards of elegance, betting four aces on Estoril's future success: seaside location, climate, thermal springs, and sports. Managed by the Estoril-Plage Society, the new bath house was now part of Hotel do Parque whose facilities, staff training, equipments, treatments, sporting and leisure programmes were Portugal's pride. However, after losing the resort's Gambling concession in 1958, the managers of the thermal venue decided to demolish it in 1961. For decades the hegemony of sun bathing, the lack of a bath house, and Portugal's social and political unrest led Estoril's springs to oblivion and its waters to (oceanic) waste. This empirical study is based on the author's Ph.D thesis, but it also includes recent data collected from theoretical approaches on contemporary practices, besides elements bestowed through the contact with Estoril's Wellness Centre and tourism promoters. Recently, while in 2008 powerplay obliterated the Estoril Coast Tourism Authority, in 2010 local stakeholders were to revive Estoril's thermal identity by inaugurating a Wellness Centre of contemporary lines. In association with the Asian Banyan Tree Group, the current managers' pivotal philosophy relies on sustainability and holistic concerns. Promotionwise, the insertion of Palácio Estoril Hotel, Spa & Golf in the demanding Condé Nast Johansens Luxury Spas 2016 guide assists in Estoril's international rebirth as Lisbon's only updated health resort and one of Europe's finest, considering its microclimate, seaside location, leisure programmes and man-made tourist assets available. As it was once, so it shall hopefully be again. ; info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

This empirical study is based on the author's PhD thesis. It aims at rescuing from the Sands of Time the spirit of the destination under analysis, basing itself on the data collected from 1930s newspapers, besides contemporary approaches to that decade in the fields of Political History, War, Tourism, and Leisure. In 1910 the Figueiredos were led to Estoris due to the microclimate, and by 1914 the entrepreneur invested on a local project meant to erect Portugal's 1st international resort built from scratch. The plan was accomplished even after the Republican regime made way for the military and civilian dictatorships, for as Hall defends authoritarian regimes do not repel tourists. Estoril was then propelled by the Gambling Law and, as Gibbons wrote in 1936, it soon attracted the mighty and the fallen, mainly of British and Spanish origins. This recollection begins with a summary of the delicate Iberian context between 1910 and 1939, and then refers the Sunny Coast as the unofficial stage of the Spanish Civil War, for since 1931 characters like General Sanjurjo settled as refugees. These visitors were pampered thanks to a Vice-Consulate (Cascais), a hotel managed by Galician partners (Monte Estoril), a multitude of leisure delights (Estoril), and Parede's Radio Club. The Sunny Coast's support to Franco soon led to rumours that drove tourists away, hence the reference to the strategies applied to overcome them. One shall finish by mentioning the current reality of equipments and the weak historic memory, whose proper recovery might allow to create a new cultural offer linked to the contemporary 'Cascais' destination for this neighbouring niche market.

; This article introduces the paths and results from a study conducted at Biblioteca Infantojuvenil Maria Mazzetti (BIMM) a Library for children and adolescents, located at Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa [Rui Barbosa's House Foundation], in Rio de Janeiro. The main objective of the investigation was to help guide the activities conducted at BIMM through the preparation of an education plan, thus providing information for the systematization of the work to be conducted at the library. The investigation built upon the premise that aspects such as school, cultural, and artistic education and the democratization of culture and education are fundamental in a field that today extends beyond school institutions. Generally speaking, the research aimed at: knowing and analyzing the activities of BIMM; increasing knowledge on current and potential users as well as their information needs; identifying the educational and cultural activities that matched the profile of the target public; planning future projects for BIMM. To conduct the investigation, a bibliographic review, a document analysis, interviews, user surveys were used as research instruments. Due to field peculiarities at that time, the research became an action research. The preparation of an education plan allows building the profile of education at the institution, but that will only be reached after the space and the target public are known, a qualified team is trained, and professionals from different areas get involved.

Charles II was a man torn between cultural tradition and scientific progress. The son of England's only absolutist King went down in History as the nation's "Merry Monarch", while his support to Science and progress tends to be overlooked by the country's historians. Although he was brought up believing in the divine right of ruling, reality soon took its toll on his life as he suffered with Charles I's beheading and his own exile in mainland Europe. Later on, invited to return and appease England's political turmoil, Charles II would hold on to the roots of ancestry by reviving religious rites like Maundy Thursday, the King's Touch, and the Coronation trail. Charles II also recovered his parents' sponsorship over the Arts and Sciences, taking the latter into another level of achievements and acknowledgement. Indeed, not only did he found the Royal Society, as he did attend meetings, yearning to learn more about the latest breakthroughs. Thus, in spite of the Stuarts' defeat at the Glorious Revolution, time proved its kindness towards Charles II and though restrained in his actions by Parliament's opposition, Charles II's reign granted London Flamsteed's Greenwich Observatory, Hooke's "The Monument", and Wren's Cathedral, securing the way to a greater understanding of Nature and building the foundations to a Scientific Revolution.

The romans were the first seafaring visitors to reach Cascais, a place where men already lived off harvesting the ocean.Throughout the centuries his proximidity to Lisbon turned it into a focal point for the military defence of the capital, and the warning of seafarers against costal perils. As a strategic landmark, Cascais was one of the first towns in Portugal to have a permanent lighthouse, and the town chosen by King Luís as the country's first costal resort. Currently, many are the cultural resources available to tourists that reflect the reformulation of facilities and heritage for the sake of tourism. A lighthouse was recently converted into first museum of its kind, and the Sea Museum displays archaeological and ethnographic items, while Tourism and services have replaced fishing as important activities of the town. the sea is also represented on artistic pavements, while formeraristocratic residences have been converted into hotels, and a conventinto a cultural centre. Folk devotion still honours Our Lady´s protection to fishermen with outdoor events, while its citadel has lost its military purpose, in order to host several "genres" of open-air initiatives. In gastronomic terms, along withfish dishes, the "Areias de Cascais" are butter cookies spinkled with sugar that also recall the town´s sandy beaches.

This article is part of the master's dissertation 'Babies in the Art Museum: Processes, Relations and Discoveries'. From the analysis of sessions of the program No Colo (On One's Arms), from the Instituto Tomie Ohtake, in São Paulo, we aimed to understand the inclusion of infants in education programs in art museums. Based on the investigation and analysis of the practices in question and dialoguing with the adopted theoretical framework - Vygotsky, Trevarthen, Vecchi - we observed that the contact with artifacts, collective experiences and proposals for sensory experimentation can be significant for infants' social, emotional and cognitive development and insertion in culture. The inclusion of this audience can provide new ways of being and thinking about exhibition spaces, contributing to its democratization and broadening of the mediation repertoire.
