Perceived life quality and social class in the Republic of China
In: Issues & studies: a social science quarterly on China, Taiwan, and East Asian affairs, Band 23, Heft 8, S. 50-71
ISSN: 1013-2511
Quality of life research has been part of the "social indicators movement" ever since the 1960s. It is usually designed to evaluate the outcome of public policies and to measure trends of social change. In 1983, a group of more than 30 social and behavioural scientists initiated a project called "General Survey of Social Change in Taiwan". The paper reports some of the preliminary results regarding perceived life quality in Taiwan obtained from this project. It attempts to determine how people in Taiwan feel about their well-being at different reference times. (DÜI-Sen)

Toward a theoretical understanding of communist China in the post-Mao era: The problem of ideology and revolution from the top
In: Issues & studies: a social science quarterly on China, Taiwan, and East Asian affairs, Band 23, Heft 6, S. 80-97
ISSN: 1013-2511
The paper attempts to survey the changes in the PRC in the post-Mao era in terms of K. E. Trimberger's concept of revolution from above. It is found that many of communist China's problems since 1976, such as overthrow of the Gang of Four, the zig-zag course of ideological change, the crackdown on both leftism and volumentary democratic movements from below, can all be explained with reference to the concept of revolution from above. Comprendre les nuances des Waishengren. Histoire et autonomie des acteurs
In: Perspectives chinoises: Shenzhou-zhanwang, Band 112, Heft 3, S. 116-132
ISSN: 1021-9013
