In: The Bangladesh development studies: the journal of the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies, Band 12, Heft 4, S. 107-122
ISSN: 0304-095X
Maternal nutrition is one ot the determinants of an infant's birth weight. A pregnant woman is likely to give birth to an underweight child if her diet is not nutritionally adequate. Employing data from a rural area of Bangladesh, the paper examines the nutrient adequacy of the diets of pregnant and lactating mothers and evaluates the extent to which these nutritive needs are fulfilled relative to the needs of other members of the family. The effect of mother's work on child care, dietary intake, and dietary adequacy of pre-school children
In: The Bangladesh development studies: the journal of the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies, Band 10, Heft 4, S. 33-61
ISSN: 0304-095X
By employing data from a rural area of Bangladesh, the effects of mother's work on such aspects of child welfare as child care, dietary intake and dietary adequacy status of pre-school children are analyzed. The data show that the mother is an important source of child care and the mother's child care time has a positive effect on the dietary intake and dietary adequacy of pre-school children. Maternal child care time, however, is significantly reduced by a mother's participation in productive activities. (DÜI-Sen)
