This article examines the study of Mikhail Sholokhov's work in China, analyses the approaches and trends in the reception of Mikhail Sholokhov's work in China since the 1930s to 2020s. As a result, it has been proven that approaches to the study of Mikhail Sholokhov's work in China change depending on the nature of Soviet-Chinese relations. In the 1930s-40s, especially during the War of Chinese People's Resistance against Japanese aggression, there was a noticeable increase in interest in Mikhail Sholokhov's journalism and prose during the war. In the 1950s, under conditions of all-round cooperation between China and the USSR, the study of Mikhail Sholokhov's work in China developed rapidly. In the 1960s-70s, in a situation of a sharp deterioration in relations between the two countries, Chinese literary critics criticised the works of Mikhail Sholokhov, however in the 1980s-90s, the researchers especially noted the patriotism, heroism and humanism reflected in the work of Mikhail Sholokhov; a number of conferences on the work of Mikhail Sholokhov were held at the largest universities in China; several monographs on the works of the writer were published. In the early 21st century, Chinese Sholokhov scholars continue the study of Mikhail Sholokhov's work in the following areas – the spiritual and artistic world of Mikhail Sholokhov, linguistic and cultural features, female images in the works of Mikhail Sholokhov, reception and literary and art criticism of the works of Mikhail Sholokhov in China.

AbstractThe coordinated development of digitization and greening is the internal demand for the comprehensive transformation and upgrading of enterprises worldwide. Based on data of China's A‐share listed companies from 2012 to 2019, this article empirically confirms the stimulating effect of digital economy development on corporate low‐carbon innovation. The mechanism tests show that the above stimulating effect is due to both the reduction effects of financing constraints and environmental uncertainty brought by the rapid development of the digital economy. In addition, this article discusses the value of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and finds that the promotion of CSR can significantly improve the policy effect of digital economy development in enabling corporate low‐carbon innovation, especially for private listed enterprises in high‐pollution industries. The findings of this article deepen our understanding of how to promote corporate low‐carbon sustainable development in the digital era.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to understand the recent developments and trends of intangible investment in Egypt and South Africa.Design/methodology/approachThis paper follows the framework pioneered by Corrado, Hulten and Sichel (2005, 2009) and measures investments in scientific R&D, organizational capital, and brand equity using the expenditure-based approach.FindingsThe main findings are that South Africa invests consistently and considerably more in intangible assets than Egypt. Among the three intangible assets examined, namely, scientific R&D, organizational capital, and brand equity, South Africa seems to invest more evenly across these assets, whereas intangible investment in Egypt is predominantly driven by investment in brand equity and very little in R&D.Originality/valueThis is the first paper to formally examine intangible investment in African countries. The ballpark estimate provided in this study is a useful step forward in understanding the trends of intangible investment in Egypt and South Africa.
As an interdicipline that studies the relation of language, power and ideology, critical discourse analysis has attracted more and more linguists' attention, which can be applied to analyze language features under certain social and cultural background. Critical discourse analysis is based on Halliday's systemic functional grammar that is a practical method to analyze discourse. Political discourse as a kind of typical discourse which involves the speaker's ideology and intention, can also be analyzed by critical discourse analysis. Therefore, this paper analyzes Donald Trump's inaugural speech mainly from the perspectives of transitivity, modality, personal pronoun and coherence in order to reveal the speaker's political intention, and help readers understand the meaning of discourse, cultivate their critical consciousness and analytical ability. The paper concludes that Trump uses different language forms to transmit, change and maintain audiences' ideology subtly. At the same time, it has a positive effect on the development of the critical discourse analysis.
