Aim of the study: To establish the implementation of the principles of good governance in Kaunas district primary health care facilities. Objectives: 1. The analysis of existing forms of management in Kaunas district primary health care facilities. 2. To evaluate the implementation of the principles of good governance in Kaunas district primary health care facilities 3. To provide for the possible implementation of the principles of good governance and the improvement of capabilities and direction of Kaunas district primary health care facilities. Methods. The selected object of the study is the implementation of the principles of good governance in Kaunas district primary health care facilities. The study used qualitative method of execution. The study was undertaken in two phases. The first phase was carried out on Kaunas district primary health care centres site's provided documents relating to the organisation of work, content analysis in order to assess the level of implementation of the formal principles of good governance. In the second phase a semi structured interview and an interview content analysis was carried out in order to ascertain how and to what extent the actual implementation of the principles of good governance are accomplished in Kaunas district primary health care facilities. The application of criteria selection (a body, education, occupation, work experience of not less than 5 years), interview participants selected for the Kaunas district primary health care centres in accordance with the heads of institutions and experts which are former or current doctors of X district. Results. Because of the study the principles of good governance implementation of primary health care centers were revealed. It was found that the informants have assessed at the highest level: the transparency, accountability, the rule of law and the impartiality and sensitive responses to customer requirements. The worst reception (medium and low level) was given to the efficiency and effectiveness, the orientation of agreement and the strategic vision and planning principles. The one who stood out was expert Y with a very critical assessment, five out of the eight principles of good governance were given the lowest level.
