The purpose of this text is to focus on commanderies as key elements within the articulation between the management of the patrimonial resources and incomes of the Military Orders and the royal and social pressure on them. The commanderies are expressions of power and sociability that extrapolate the Orders themselves, as they reflected strong external ambitions. From the transition from the 13th to the 14th century, a crucial time in the history of these Orders, some evidences of decline and transformation of the landlord are known, which coincided with a greater dependence of these Orders on the crown and with deeper exposure to some social groups. So, it is important to identify the instruments for their maintenance under royal control, as well as those that each Order implemented, seeking the management of the jurisdictional rights over their territories, the systems for collecting revenues and other types of income, the tax mechanisms and the efforts to accountancy. Chilean education is highly segregated, making it difficult to construct cohesive and democratic societies. Through a mixed-method sequential design we explored the relationship between segregation (selection and socioeconomic level) and quality of school climate, taking as example the 200 Chilean schools who participated in the PISA 2009 test. The results evidence worst school environments in public, non-selective and low socioeconomic status schools, where students feel stigmatized and discriminated by academic, social, family and political variables. We discuss the need to revise the education policy that encourages competition among schools for academic performance and training in civics to move towards more integrated schools and more democratic societies.

The aim of this study is to single out the latest directions taken by the historiography of the Religious and Military Orders established in Portugal in the Middle Ages and to discuss the current state of research into them. We shall also examine the main tendencies characterised by such research and the way it has been formally organized, drawing attention to how it fits in with other historical topics. The historical course of the Military Orders in Portugal has influenced the documentary output that supports research into the topic, and also the actual organization of the archives and their use. In this regard, we should first describe the orders, showing how they originated and where they became implanted, as well as their relationship with the monarchy.
; The war organization performed by the Portuguese Crown and by the Military Orders made themselves dependent on the recruitment of external people (namely from the aristocracy and from the municipal militias). Although the recruitment and the mobilization required to both some complex and joint procedures, we intend to understand if the Military Orders had assumed any independent role in this kind of missions. Thinking on these questions, we aim at contributing both to a deep knowledge of the Military Orders' armies and to the relevance of their military groups within the royal armies in which they were involved.

The aim of this paper is to understand the character and the role of higher education in business in relation to the wider institutional and structural contexts within which they function. Being loyal to that widespread background, business schools in Chile have become efficient providers of appropriate goods and services for their respective clients and consumers, behaving more like corporations and businesses rather than educational institutions. From this perspective, business education's alignment with the wider political and socio-economic shifts associated with the developments of market economies and economic globalization is a necessary reflection. In this paper we will provide an account of our problematization of management education practices in Chile. This practice was pictured as one of the main characters at the forefront of the Chilean neo-liberal revolution during the final years of the last century. In particular, we will unravel more closely the chain of signifiers articulating the meaning of Chilean higher business education. This articulation is recuperated mainly around how those involved in the management education practice talk about (our)themselves. As well as specialised press writings, some academic accounts and fragments from our own 'ethnographic' involvement are used for this purpose. Particular attention is paid to the social, political and fantasmatic logics (GLYNOS; HOWARTH, 2007) as key elements of our own explanation of this practice, which in turn informs our critical standpoint.

; This paper studies hagiographic devotion in the seigniories of the military orders: the Orders of Avis and Christ in Portugal and of Calatrava in Castile. Applying a common methodology and using similar sources for all three cases, this paper analyzes the written testimonies of the orders' devotion to Christ and the Virgin Mary, as well as their veneration of the saints. These records were compiled from the visitations made to churches, hermitages, and confraternities between 1462 and 1539. The research was governed by two objectives: firstly, to construct a hagiographic overview of the selected territories by systematizing the data collected; and, secondly, to reflect on the typical devotional profile of the territories of the military orders as portrayed by the documentary evidence.
