Das System der Wanderarbeit galt lange Zeit als schwerwiegendes Hindernis für die gewerkschaftliche Organisierung der südafrikanischen Bergarbeiter. Seit einigen Jahren verzeichnet die NUM jedoch ein rapides Anwachsen ihrer Mitgliederzahlen. Die Dimensionen der ungleichmäßigen Entwicklung der NUM werden aufgezeigt und die Gründe für die Überwindung der traditionellen geographischen und sozialen Hindernisse bei der gewerkschaftlichen Organisierung analysiert. Wanderarbeit bleibt jedoch auch in Zukunft eine empfindliche Schwachstelle der NUM. (DÜI-Fwr)
