These political parties reflected the class systems of industrialised economies where a homogenous group of unskilled and semi-skilled working-class voters aligned with their chief economic interests.

In the aftermath of the scandal about political parties conducting fake polling, it's perhaps worth delving into the world of constituency polling in Ireland. What is it? And why do political parties do it? The principle reason why constituency polls are important is because individual candidates have a relatively strong influence on voting behaviour in Irish elections.

Something is happening in politics that feels quite important. The latest example of this feature was last month when the Social Democratic Party surged at the very end of a four-year cycle to win the German general election. For decades, political science viewed campaigns as 'full of sound and fury, signifying nothing' and yet we are observing support for political parties changing rapidly during political campaign periods with much greater frequency.

Do you ever wonder why someone would vote for Donald Trump? Or indeed for any politician? On the face of it, an election looks like a fairly straightforward process. Politicians make proposals about how they plan to run the country and, in response, voters pick their preferred politician (or indeed political party). However, political science tells us that this is not the case and that psychology plays a far more significant role in voting behaviour. Just why and how is this the case?

This three-paper thesis explores three instruments of party strategy: the party?s policy implementations, the party?s ideological positioning, and the targeting of their political campaigns. In each case we explore how these instruments affect the party?s fortunes and whether those fortunes would have been different if the party had adopted a different strategy. Conflicting time and space perceptions, seated in the cultural centers of societies and rooted in social rituals and patterns of life, are important aspects of strategic interaction. In some societies, these spatiotemporal perceptions play a major role in defining social order; in others, they provide undercurrents of dissention and social cleavages. This article explores how shifting aspects of spatial determinants influence policy behavior, particularly the influence of temporal intensification—the acceleration of social and political life. We argue that cultural aspects of space and time are dangerously underrepresented in military science and in studies of the cultural determinants of security policy. Especially in modern strategic planning, the expectation that military organizations can simultaneously compress time and control space influences the cultural as well as practical sides of the policy decision of when and how to use military force. After reviewing the rise of Western time orientations and current US military theory, the article explores aspects of military doctrines that unconsciously assign high priority to time dominance.
