Purpose: The aim of the research is to examine the correlation between economic development in the macroeconomic scale and the development of the real estate market. Design/Methodology/Approach: The tool of the applied computational engineering is cluster analysis, the hierarchical method based on Euclidean distance and Ward's method (algorithm). Findings: The research process carried out confirmed the existence of a dependence between macroeconomic determinants and parameters of the real estate market. A division into three homogeneous groups of countries, whose development shows signs of similarity, was obtained. This allows making comparisons between individual countries, neglecting their geographical and historical dependences. Practical Implications: The utilitarian usability of applying computational tools used in economic analyses was proved. Originality/Value: Individual clusters make a certain reference point for particular countries. The obtained results offer the possibility of applying a suitable strategy which provides bases for development and also the possibility of verifying its effects against a whole group. ; peer-reviewed

Purpose: The aim of this study is to parametrize and assess the situation which companies dealing in the building industry in the European Union found themselves in. The situation is analyzed from the point of view of the costs borne by the enterprises in the years 2011-2017. Design/Methodology/Approach: For the purpose of the calculations the shift-share analysis was used in both its classical and dynamic approach. Findings: The results of the research point to the fact that the dynamics of changes in the construction sector in the EU member states is not equal and depends on the accepted analytical approach. The factor which is deciding about a change in the growth rate or a decrease in the costs borne by enterprises is the high level of competitiveness between the associated states. In the majority of cases, a rise in the costs positively correlates with an increase in the operating surplus. Practical Implications: The information obtained on the basis of the conducted empirical research can be of use to individual EU member states and also to the whole Commonwealth, primarily as a tool in creating the policy of development. The study allows selecting states which are characterized by a high investment potential. Originality/value: So far the problem of enterprises dealing in construction industry, which are based in the EU member states, has not been addressed by the literature on the subject from the point of view of the structural-geographical analysis or with reference to operating profit. ; peer-reviewed

Purpose: The objective of this study involves the determination of cyclical characteristics that occur on the European construction market. Design/Methodology/Approach: In the research implementation process, time-frequency analysis was used to identify and analyze cyclicalities in the construction market. Findings: The results clearly demonstrate the absence of a homogeneous construction market in the investigated countries. The diversity of the European construction market is revealed by the various responses to the periods corresponding to the ups and downs of the economy. Practical Implications: The present research provides grounds for the clear indication of specific countries and cyclical characteristics on the construction market in them to define guidelines suitable for the identification of adequate scenarios for the development of construction markets in them. Originality/value: The conclusion derived from the study is associated with the classification of construction markets and identification of various responses of individual markets to the occurrence of macroeconomic or microeconomic stimuli. ; peer-reviewed
