Geschiedschrijving en lokale politiek
In: Res Publica, Band 39, Heft 1, S. 101-107
In Belgian historical research a lot of attention is given to local politics, also by the activities of local amateur historians. This research mostly bas a very limited scientific finality because the local political past is taken in isolation. 'Glocal history' requires representative data. Within a broader perspective one can consider the local political past in a global context. This 'global history' sees the local level as a field in which to analyze the political, social, economic and cultural developments in relation to each other. At the same time the local political sphere is considered a link between the individual citizen and higher political authorities. Local political structures act as a buffer between the citizen and (inter) national policy and are at the same time a grounds for experimentation.

The notion of local politics in the modern global village is reviewed, arguing that local perspectives may provide excellent insights into broader processes, possibly leading to "glocal" descriptions. Two currents in which local politics are studied from a broader perspective are distinguished: (1) studies in which local power structures are analyzed using explicit sociological & political models, & (2) studies in which local politics are studied in the framework of larger political processes, analyzing the relationships between local & (inter)national politics. The Flemish movement and Flemish nationalism. Instruments, historiography and debates
In: Studies on national movements, Band 1, Heft 1
ISSN: 2295-1466
This article gives a concise overview of the historiography of the Flemish movement and the Belgian nationality conflict. It addresses the main working instruments and scientific infrastructure. Furthermore it provides an overview of the basic works and the most significant literature in English, French and German. It detects the theoretical frameworks and gives a brief overview of the smouldering historiographical debates: the social players of the Flemish movement in the 19th century; the impact of World War I on Flemish nation building; the Flemish movement during the interwar years and World War II; the ideological developments of the Flemish movement and the Belgian state reform after World War II.
The impact of trust on strategic resource acquisition through interorganizational networks:Towards a conceptual model
In: Human relations: towards the integration of the social sciences, Band 58, Heft 12, S. 1523-1543
ISSN: 1573-9716, 1741-282X
In this article, we build a conceptual framework that models the influence of social capital as a multidimensional concept on strategic resource acquisition through interorganizational networks. Interorganizational networks are considered as effective when they allow for the acquisition of strategicresources. Our conceptual framework reflects that network effectiveness is dependent on the structural and the relational dimension of social capital. The main focus is on how the relational dimension of social capital – in this article conceptualized as trust – in interorganizational networks can directly and indirectly influence the acquisition of strategic resources through those networks. Based on the network literature, social capital literature and the literature on trust, we seek to develop propositions that detail the relationships among trust, interorganizational network characteristics, strategic resource acquisition/network effectiveness and performance. Basically, we argue 1) that different types of trust will have a different impact on network effectiveness, 2) that the level of trust will influence network effectiveness, and 3) that the interaction between trust and other variables, such as structural dimension variables, are fundamental for analyzing network effectiveness.
