International audience ; This text is the conclusive paper of a meeting which made evident that religious foundations were historically a pervasive features of the most varied societies, in Europe, in the Middle East and in Eastern Asia. They fulfilled (and still fulfil) religious functions. But the key of their success was that they allowed, in the name of religion, to bypass legal norms which tended to the division of inherited family assets. States approved, because the economical and legal rigidity of the foundation promptly led to unsustainable conflicts which opened a door to highly profitable political interventions. They were a bridge between all the most cherished objects of human interest. Nevertheless subject to a relative decline, it no longer was the leading character of European politics.This decline occurs in parallel with that of the grandees. A nobiliary cast, created by Charles V, as an aristocracy of the Spanish Empire, they included representatives of all the local aristocracies of the same. They had a practical monopoly over the viceroyships and the main governorships. They were in fact co-administrators of the empire, alongside the king.The group had reached around 1700 a degree of biological exhaustion which weakened its monopoly on higher territorial commands. International audience ; The PAPE was a group for historical research on early modern Spain. It lasted almost 40 years. Around 100 researchers worked with it a some moment or other. It produced an impressive number of books and papers, various of them really ground-breaking contributions. At unusually low costs. The reason of this success were threefold. For one part a low degree of institutionalization, which meant flexibility. For another, the centrality of a tool, namely the Fichoz database, which acted as a structuring element. Finally, a continuous backing, based on trust, of various permanent institutions, such as University departments, the Casa de Velazquez and the CNRS. The conclusion formulates some recommendations for he management of research. ; El Grupo PAPE, especializado en temáticas históricas de la España moderna, tuvo casi cuarenta años de existencia, agrupó a un centenar de investigadores a lo largo de su historia, tuvo una producción ingente e innovadora, por un coste reducido. Las razones de su éxito descansan en su limitada institucionalizacón, lo que significó flexibilidad; en el la presencia de una instrumento técnico fuerte, la base de datos Fichoz, que generó una fuerte vertebración; en el apoyo constante, fundamentado en la confianza más que en el control administrativo, de un número importante de organismos permanentes para la investigación. Ce déclin est concomitant avec l'épuisement biologique de la grandesse, une noblesse impériale de la Monarchie espagnole créée par Charles Quint, qui s'était progressivement constituée en caste, et avait acquis le quasi-monopole des vice-royautés et grands commandements territoriaux, au point d'assumer une espèce de co-direction de l'Empire espagnol avec le roi.L'arrivée de Philippe V acheva un groupe déjà affaibli.
