Argentina's prominent radical rightists, or Nationalists, have attracted considerable scholarly attention. Most of the studies of this political movement analyze the writings of a handful of male intellectuals who figured among its leaders. Only a few researchers have examined the beliefs and practices of the majority of Nationalist men and women, and Federico Finchelstein has joined them. His work also marks a new and welcome direction in the historiography of Nationalism. Stanley Payne, Emilio Gentile, George Mosse and many other experts on fascism have pointed to its emphasis on myths, ceremonies and symbols, but Argentinists have not followed their lead.

Explores women's involvement in the fascist movement, Brazilian Integralist Action (AIB), during the 1930s. Women members, known as Green Blouses, were often of African or indigenous descent & could well be considered Spartan in their commitment & militancy. The emergence of the AIB is traced, & motivations for women to join are discussed, noting the AIB's ardent anticommunism as an overarching raison d'etre. The class & racial implications of this anticommunism are delineated. How the Green Blouses were organized to fulfill the AIB's ideals is described; activities included molding these members into model (domestic) women & political participation (eg, in feminine congresses & marches), deemed by the AIB as a "genuine feminism," despite its opposition to feminism's liberationist message & its Catholic model of femininity, which contrasted with a secular feminist form. The Green Blouses' racial diversity & presence amid political violence distinguished them from other fascist women around the world; the emergence of similar characteristics among Brazilian women in the 1960s mobilizing against a perceived communist threat is noted.
