This paper investigates the relationship between intra-industry trade (IIT), horizontal IIT, vertical IIT (VIIT) and immigration flows using a gravity model for the period 1995-2008 amongst Portugal and European Union's Member States (EU-27). Using a panel data approach, the results show a positive correlation between immigration and IIT. These outcomes indicate that the immigration can reduce transaction costs between home and host country. We also consider the economic dimension which appears to exercise a positive effect on trade. Our research confirms the hypothesis that there is a negative effect of transportation costs on trade.
The goal of this study is to provide empirical evidence for existence of positive relationship between urbanization and democracy. We involve a dataset of 56 developing countries covering a time span between 1982 and 2007. The research hypothesis is that developing countries tend to be more democratic at higher levels of urbanization. We test this hypothesis within GMM methodological framework and find some evidences.

By using data related to the 15 European Union ?old? and ?new? Member States, for a time span between 2001 and 2014, the present paper supports the thesis of a positive and significant correlation between the quality of governance and entrepreneurial activity. In order to test such correlation, the elements of Governance Quality reported by the World Bank?s Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI) project were considered. Some key aspects of entrepreneurial activity reflected by Total Early-Stage Entrepreneurial Activity, Perceived Opportunities and Perceived Capabilities were taken into account based on The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) database. In addition, in order to reflect the structural rigidities and tensions from the labour market, the unemployment rate provided by the World Bank?s World Development Indicators database was considered as a control variable. The effect of the inclusion of a country in a certain development group, according to the most recent World Bank classification (?low-income economies? to ?high-income economies?), was also considered in a multi-level analytical framework with a two-level model. The results of this study clearly indicate that higher levels of public policies and institutions? credibility/effectiveness produce a positive and robust impact on entrepreneurial climate.
The diagnosis of pigmented basal cell carcinoma can bring significant distress to patients and physicians alike. However, astute clinicians that can employ correctly the clinical and dermatoscopical clues can reach a correct preoperative diagnosis, and as such can avoid unnecessary worry for the patient, additional work-up, or overtreatment. We present a case series of pigmented basal cell carcinomas and a comparative case with pigmented cutaneous melanoma, together with a literature review, that will highlight these aspects of the management of pigmented tumours of the skin.
