This research investigates how journalists behave in texts. The analysis focuses on the exploitation of attitudinal lexis. This is qualitatively explored through attitude and graduation. The data sources were columns of news, taken from an online version of The Jakarta Post on June sixth 2016. Having been selected using criterion-based sampling technique, the sources of data resulted in six chemical castration texts. The procedure of investigation consists of domain, taxonomic, componential, and cultural value analysis. The result shows that journalists are relatively subjective in reporting news by unbalancing the pros and cons, relatively inconsistent in work from delivering news to criticizing government officials, and relatively provocative by up-scaling critical evaluations against the government policy on sex offenders.

This study aims to describe the impoliteness strategies and impolite responses to swearing utterances in the Javanese Cak Percil CS slapstick shows. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The research approach used is pragmatic. The data in this study were divided into primary and secondary. Preliminary data is swearing utterances that accommodate the impoliteness strategies and impolite responses, while secondary data is information about speech through context and felicity conditions. The data obtained in this study is the listening method with recording techniques. This study found that impoliteness strategies included bald on records, positive impoliteness, and negative impoliteness. For response found offensive-countering, defensive-countering, accept the face attack, and do not respond.

Abstract: The Indonesian government has made various efforts to reduce the rate of spread of the Corona virus by developing, producing and distributing the Covid-19 vaccine to the Indonesian people. This is because the Covid-19 vaccine is not only an effort to reduce the rate of spread of the Corona virus, but is also expected to be able to restore the economy. In reporting the distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine, researchers found some news in the Republika Online Media that used the verbs "ask" and "requested" which means asking for services (proposals) in the study of Functional Systemic Linguistics. This means that there is a status mismatch in news, both between the writer and the reader as well as between the participants in the news. Therefore, researchers will use Functional Systemic Linguistics to reveal Interpersonal Meanings in Covid-19 Vaccine Distribution Coverage in Indonesia. The research entitled Interpersonal Meaning in Covid-19 Vaccine Distribution Coverage in Indonesia is a qualitative research and uses observation and note-taking techniques as data collection methods, while the methods and techniques used in this study are the data analysis method proposed by Spradley (1980), namely domain, taxonomic, and compnential analysis. Cultural differences make translators censor some parts that considered as taboo, abusive, and inappropriate in the culture of the target language. Censorship carried out by deleting and reducing words, phrases, or sentences in subtitles. The aims of this research are finding words, phrases, and sentences that censored, factors causing censorship and the impact of censorship on the quality of translation. This research uses a descriptive qualitative research method with a fixed case study form. The result shows that censorship was carried out by translators because of two main causes, namely self-censorship and translator's capacity. The results also showed that most of the data was censor because of self-censorship. The translators choose to delete or reduce because of four things, namely swearing words, emphasized, sexual references, and repetitions. Meanwhile, the impact of censorship on the quality of translation shows that most of the data is inaccurate, acceptable, and has high legibility.

The purpose of this study is to find the type of predicting and the quality of translation on the acceptability aspect. This research can be classified as a descriptive qualitative research with an embeded study and translation of product-oriented. The source of the data in this study is novel in English, entitled Deception Point and its translation in Bahasa. The data were collected through document analysis, questionnaire and focus group discussion. The data was sentence that contains predicting utterances. From the data collected in the novel Deception Point, there were 87 data. Type of predictive modality with acceptable were 97.06% (81 data) and less acceptable translation were 2.94% (6 data). Then, on the type of hypothetical prediction were 66.67% with acceptable translation and 33.33% with less acceptable, then 100% were type of habitual prediction with an acceptable translation.

This study aims to assess the translation quality in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability of words that contain spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors that represent the condition of Autism character in Flowers for Algernon novel by Daniel Keyes using an instrument from Nababan, Nuraeni, and Sumardiono (2012). This research uses qualitative descriptive method. Data collection is done through document analysis, questionnaire, and FGD. From 309 data found in the study, 303 data (98.05%) were accurately translated and 6 data (1.94%) were translated inaccurately. In terms of acceptability, 177 data (57.28%) were acceptable, 126 data (40.77%) were less acceptable and 6 data (1.94%) were unacceptable. While for readability aspect, 285 data (92,23%) were stated to have high readability, 18 data (5.82%) had medium readability and 6 data (1.94%) had low readability. The average score is 2.81. This score indicates the translation has a good quality of accuracy, acceptability, and readability.Keywords: Translation Quality, Spelling Error, Punctuation Error, Grammatical Error

This research aims to investigate the attitude of natural science and social science students toward their English class, as well as the evaluative language employed in expressing their opinions toward English class. The study employs Martin & White's (2005) appraisal framework to analyze the language used. The participants in the study consist of 60 high school students, with 30 students from the Natural Science major and 30 students from the Social Sciences major, who were selected using the purposive sampling method. The students were requested to write a narrative text outlining their experiences and perceptions of the English class they attended for one semester. The analysis result show that both science and social science students tend to give positive evaluations towards the English class they attend. However, science students are more inclined to give positive evaluations compared to social science students.

The main objective of this study is to compare the acceptability translation result from the translator and edited by the editor. It employed a descriptive-qualitative approach. Its data were obtained through content analysis, FGD, and observation, and analyzed with an interactive data analysis technique. The final findings of this research indicate the followings. First, the translation techniques used by translator and editing techniques used by the editor. Second, the rate of acceptability of the translation results from the translator and that have been edited by the editor. Third, the analysis of the acceptability of the translation results by the translator and that have been edited by the editor. Prior to its application, the translation techniques and editing techniques used by the translator and editor have a positive impact on the acceptability of the translation.

Politeness strategies show how people maintain and save other's face in communication. Indonesian people tend to used negative politeness to show respect to others through language, meanwhile English people tend to use positive politeness. This paper aims at examining the translation of politeness strategies of directive acts used by four characters in Dan Brown's novel entitled Deception Point and its two Indonesian translation versions. It is a qualitative research. Data were taken by using purposive sampling and analyzed by comparing linguistic markers of politeness strategies used by 2 male politicians and 2 female political advisors in giving directive acts in source text and translation texts. The result shows that: (1) all novels use more positive politeness strategies; (2) there is a tendency that the 2015 translation version used less negative politeness strategies than the old translation version; (3) It reveals that politeness stratagies in giving directive act in the translation and rank of imposition (illocution force) are changed. As a literary work, it could be the reflection of Indonesian language condition today or would influence the reader's politeness strategies.

Ternate is the center of education and trading in North Maluku Province. This reality makes the society of Ternate become multilingual. The language of Ternate-Malay is commonly used as lingua franca beside bahasa Indonesia. The domination of these two languages have been driving Ternate language to be shifted or died in the short time next. This study investigates the factor that influencing the Ternate language maintenance, its domains and the challenges faced in the process. The qualitative approach is used in this study. The data are obtained by applying the methods of observation, interview and document analysis. This study found that there are several factors that become challenges in maintaining this language. This study aims to describe the translation techniques and quality of translation in the aspect of accuracy of command turn taking utterances using pragmatic approach. This is a descriptive qualitative research with embedded case study. The data collection techniques used in this research is document analysis, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), as well as questionnaire to decide on the translation technique and the quality of translation. The data which is used are utterance sentences containing command turn taking and its directive speech act responses in George R. R. Martin's Game of Thrones novel and its translation. The result indicates that the translator uses established equivalent, variation, explication, borrowing, modulation, literal translation, transposition, implicitation, discursive creation, and generalization to translate the sentences. In terms of accuracy, the average rate of the translation is 2.6 out of 3. The score indicate that the translation of directive speech act in response to command turn taking in Game of Thrones novel have equivalent meaning from the source text to the target text.

This aims to reveal the ways of criticizing American government and wheedling the audients believe trough each speech act in movie. Pragmatic multimodal perspective is used to uncover both speech act and the cinematic aspect in order to know how the movie producer criticize and persuade audients to believe. This research is presented Qualitatively and the data taken from David Michôd (2016) work "War Machines". It was found that the movie has three ways in criticizing the government and persuading the audien to believe. They are: 1) To contradict between speech and multimodality of cinematic to create an offensive criticism structure. 2) Use of mutually supportive between speech acts of and multimodality to create a common criticism structure (mutual affirmation of speech acts and multimodality). 3) The use of personification of institutions to direct criticism of policy holders.
