AbstractOrganizational inclusion has become a key concept when dealing with the topic of diversity and inequality in organizations. Its core claim is to be all‐embracing and to "leave no one behind." However, can mainstream as well as critical inclusion approaches live up to this claim? In this article, I revisit two central concepts—belongingness and recognition—of both approaches from a feminist disability lens in general and the interests and needs of autistic people in particular. The analysis shows that mainstream and critical inclusion approaches rely on implicit ableist assumptions, which results in autistic people becoming "the other Other" of the organizational inclusion discourse. Yet, instead of judging the "inclusion project" as failed, the article pleads for the acknowledgement of inclusion as always partial, based on implicit boundary drawing. Such a view makes it possible to discuss the il‐/legitimacy of certain boundaries and their inclusionary and exclusionary consequences.

Die empirisch fundierte Untersuchung von Laura Dobusch zum Diversity Management ermöglicht einen differenzierten Einblick in dessen Inklusionspotenzial für historisch benachteiligte Gruppen und offenbart gleichzeitig, dass Exklusionsrisiken fortbestehen oder dadurch erst hervorgebracht werden. Der Vergleich von Nicht-/Behinderung und Geschlecht im Rahmen von Diversity Management zeigt dabei, wie Organisationen zwischen legitimer und illegitimer Vielfalt unterscheiden: die Annahme adäquater Leistungserfüllung wird zum entscheidenden Kriterium. Leistung selbst, ihre Messbarkeit sowie die Bedingungen ihrer Erbringung finden jedoch kaum Thematisierung. "Der Artikel untersucht wie in Organisationen, die sich selbst als aktiv im Bereich des Diversity Management beschreiben, das Thema Behinderung verhandelt wird. Dadurch soll eine empirisch geerdete Einsicht in das Inklusions-/ Exklusionspotenzial von (diskursiven) Praktiken des Diversity Management gewonnen werden. Es zeigt sich, dass vor allem defizitorientierte Vorstellungen von Menschen mit Behinderungen fortgeschrieben werden und der Diversity (Management)-Diskurs nicht transformativ, sondern adaptiv wirkt. Die Betonung adäquater Leistungserbringung als entscheidendes Kriterium für Organisationseintritt und Fortkommen führt zu einer partiellen Inklusion jener Gruppen, bei denen eine entsprechende Übereinstimmung zwischen Leistungserwartung und -erbringung möglich erscheint (= Menschen mit physischen/sinnesbezogenen Beeinträchtigungen). ZusammenfassungNach anfänglichem Fokus auf die vermeintlich grenzenlose Offenheit des Internets sowie von onlinebasierten Gemeinschaften im Speziellen sind mittlerweile exkludierende Effekte von "offenen" Online-Plattformen stärker ins Zentrum soziologischer Aufmerksamkeit gerückt. So zeigt sich auch in als dezidiert offen markierten Online-Gemeinschaften, wie im Bereich der Open-Source-Software oder im Kontext der Online-Enzyklopädie Wikipedia, ein Mangel an Diversität hinsichtlich der Beitragenden wie auch der Beiträge. Mithilfe einer konstitutiven Perspektive auf Offenheit und Geschlossenheit, die diese nicht als jeweilige Endpunkte eines Kontinuums betrachtet, sondern als sich wechselseitig bedingend, entwickelt dieser Beitrag eine Typologie von Offenheit-Geschlossenheit-Konfigurationen charakteristisch für "offene" Online-Gemeinschaften. Im Ergebnis folgt daraus die Abkehr von der Annahme einer generalisierbaren Offenheit an sich, hin zu spezifischer Offenheit, die mit bestimmten Schließungen einhergeht oder auf diese sogar angewiesen ist.

Die Rede von einer sich verschärfenden "Krise der Parteien" gilt in öffentlichen wie wissenschaftlichen Diskursen als Common Sense. Ein Blick in die Geschichte zeigt jedoch, dass Krisenerzählungen keineswegs eine neuartige Erscheinung sind, sondern Parteien seit deren Entstehung begleiten. Dies ist dem Umstand geschuldet, dass Parteien stets an demokratischen Idealvorstellungen gemessen werden, an denen sie aufgrund ihrer Formierung als Organisationen zwangsläufig scheitern müssen. Umso notwendiger erscheint es, Parteien aus organisationstheoretischer Perspektive in den Blick zu nehmen und sie nach ihren eigenlogischen Verfahren, Programmen und Mitgliederrollen zu befragen. Vor diesem Hintergrund skizzieren wir aktuelle Praktiken der Inklusion in und Exklusion von deutschen Parteien und welche Personen(-gruppen) hierbei eine besondere Privilegierung oder Marginalisierung erfahren. Über ideologische Trennlinien hinweg fragen wir danach, wie Parteien zu "inklusiven Organisationen" werden können. The notion of uniqueness, as articulated at the centre of most organisational inclusion literature, is inextricably tied to Western-centric idea(l)s of the autonomous, individual and self-sufficient subject, stripped of historical inequalities and relational embeddedness. Following a critical inclusion agenda and seeking alternatives to this predominant view, we apply a Bhabhaian postcolonial lens to the ethnographic study of organisational efforts to include indigenous Kalaallit people in the Greenlandic Police Force. Greenland has home rule, but is still part of the Kingdom of Denmark and is subject to Danish defence policy and the police force. With Bhabha's notion of mimicry, we explore how police officers, through performing 'Danish' (Western) culture and professionalism, both confirm and resist colonial stereotypes and even open up pathways towards hybridity. Building on the officers' experiences, we introduce the term 'hybrid inclusion' by which we emphasise two interrelated dimensions necessary for advancing critical inclusion studies: first, a certain understanding of the to-be-included subject as fluid, emergent and thus ontologically singular but at the same time relationally embedded in a collective colonial past and present; second, organisational practices for inclusivity that address and work with the actual impossibility of a 'happy inclusion story', free of contradictions and conflicts.

A growing number of organizations subscribe to ideals of openness in areas such as innovation or strategy-making, supported by digital technologies and fuelled by promises of better outcomes and increased legitimacy. However, by applying a relational lens of inclusion and exclusion, we argue that, paradoxically, certain forms of closure may be necessary to achieve desired open qualities in strategy-making. Analysing the case of Wikimedia, which called for participation in a globally open strategy-making process, we show that openness regarding participation in crafting strategy content depends on certain forms of closure regarding procedures of the strategy-making process. Against this background, we propose a two-dimensional framework of openness, in which content-related and procedural openness are characterized by a combination of open and closed elements.

Workers in the low-wage service sector represent a sociodemographically heterogeneous and particularly vulnerable group in terms of job security, job quality and health implications. However, organizational inclusion research has largely neglected this group. In contrast, this article builds on a qualitative study of a Dutch aircraft cleaning company in order to assess the 'inclusivity of inclusion approaches' for less privileged groups of employees. By reconstructing how managers and cleaners draw/rework boundaries, we identify certain configurations of inclusion and exclusion that can unfold more or less 'inclusive' consequences for historically disadvantaged group members, and more or less exclusionary repercussions for particularly privileged and/or majority group members. We stress the need to say goodbye to a linear narrative of organizations becoming 'inclusive as such'. Furthermore, we argue that the presence of decent working and employment conditions and the absence of steep differences in those conditions between groups represent the 'silent foundation' of creating inclusivity. Consequently, we ask: does inclusion research reach its 'natural limits' by tiptoeing around the topic of equality?

As most scholarly work on the conceptualization of organizational inclusion seems to be implicitly based on contexts of high-wage labor, this article investigates whether the common themes of organizational inclusion as identified by Shore et al. (2018) also align with the low-wage labor context. Our respective analysis identifies several mismatches between the current conceptualizations of organizational inclusion and the needs and interests of low-wage workers. Consequently, we offer suggestions for adapting these conceptualizations: by paying attention to (1) material and physical safety next to psychological safety, (2) opportunities of non-task-oriented involvement in the workgroup and (3) the recognition and accommodation of low-wage workers' voices and needs. Furthermore, we argue to extend the scope of scholarly work on organizational inclusion by taking into account the broader (historical) social order and different stakeholders who influence the organizational processes of inclusion and exclusion. By engaging with the current "inclusion turn" and providing adaptations, this article contributes to a less "exclusive" conception of organizational inclusion as well as outlines where the organizational inclusion approach might come up against its own limits.

Purpose– The purpose of this paper is to anchor the buzzword "inclusive organisation" in a theory-based perspective by identifying meanings of inclusion and exclusion in various scientific discourses.Design/methodology/approach– The paper provides an overview about inclusion/exclusion and its different usage in four "western" scientific discourses. By analysing the role of organisations in each discourse, relevant aspects for specifying the concept of "inclusive organisations" are identified.Findings– The concept of "inclusive organisations" needs to be grounded in a wider industry context for determining adequate action strategies towards inclusiveness. More attention should be paid to the excluding effects of including measures and resulting changes in power relations.Research limitations/implications– The conceptual approach of the paper needs to be anchored in further empirical research on the measurability of inclusion/exclusion within organisations and on the implementation of organisational practices towards more inclusiveness.Originality/value– The value of the paper is its interdisciplinary approach to concepts of organisational inclusion and exclusion that are usually analysed separately. This fresh perspective paves the way for an original contribution to further develop the idea of "inclusive organisations".
