Dieser Beitrag gibt Einblick in Entwicklung, gesetzliche Grundlagen und Teilnehmendenzahlen der "Schulen für Berufstätige", die seit den 1970er und 1980er Jahren die Möglichkeit bieten, neben der Arbeit eine systematische, abschlussorientierte Bildung zu erwerben. Mit der Gesetzesreform im Jahr 2010 kam es zu einer Modularisierung der Bildungsgänge und zur Ausbildung sogenannter Modulverbände. Die neue Gesetzeslage sieht zudem den Einsatz von Lerncoaching-Maßnahmen vor, die in den Jahren 2011 und 2012 zu einem deutlichen Rückgang der Drop-out-Quoten führten. Ein Blick auf Fachhochschulstudiengänge für Berufstätige, die Berufsreifeprüfung, Universitätslehrgänge und Fernstudienangebote rundet die kurze Zusammenschau ab. (DIPF/Orig.) ; This article gives insight into the development, legal basis and numbers of participants of the schools for people in work (Schulen für Berufstätige in German) that have provided their participants with the opportunity to obtain a systematic, diploma-oriented education besides working since the 1970s and 1980s. Legislative reform in 2010 brought about a modularization of educational programmes and the creation of what are called module units (Modulverbände in German). The new legislation also includes learning coaching measures, which has led to a significant decline in drop-out rates in 2011 and 2012. A look at degree courses at universities for applied sciences for people in work, preparatory courses for the higher education entrance examination for persons having completed their vocational training, university graduate programmes and distance-learning courses round off this survey. International trade is becoming increasingly important in the strategies of industrialized economies ('core' countries) to meet their physical needs and maintain their social metabolism. Less industrialized ('non-core') countries, in particular those with low population densities such as countries in South America, provide a large share of the natural resources currently being used by the 'core' countries. This article analyzes the relations of biophysical exchange of Argentina, Bolivia, and Brazil with global 'core' and 'non-core' countries in order to add to a discussion of possible relations of different national economic policies, such as import substituting industrialization or neoliberal adjustment, on the countries' physical trade balances (PTBs). By that we will provide a biophysical reading of ecologically unequal exchange; by investigating whether there is a physical net trade flow from 'non-core' to 'core' countries, whether primary products dominate exports of 'non-core' countries in exchange for processed products from 'core' countries, and whether the notion of unfavorable mass-to-price relation for the trading 'non-core' countries applies (Hornborg 2012; Martinez-Alier 2007). The magnitudes, type of material, stage of processing and monetary value of the traded goods are analyzed for the time period from 1962 to 2011. The evaluations have been carried out for trade relations with the 'core' and the 'non-core' countries separately. Additionally, in order to trace the so-called China Effect, which led to the period of new extractivism, the quantities exported to China are shown separately. The results indicate that the three countries examined are net exporters of physical quantities. The physical involvement in 'core'- and 'non-core'-related international trade differs greatly, but at the same time the relative importance of the 'core' as trading partner has decreased steadily over the five decades. Still, 'core'-related trade involves the most unfavorable mass-to-price relation. These conditions, i.e. high importance of unprocessed export commodities, low average unit prices, and an unfavorable monetary trade balance (MTB), reveal many characteristics of an ecologically unequal exchange. This is especially true for Argentina and Brazil. Due to its lower economic performance and limited involvement in international trade, Bolivia to some extent represents an exception.Keywords: Ecologically unequal exchange, physical trade balance, South America, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil.

Abstract
This contribution argues that evolutionary economic geography needs to widen its conceptual apparatus in order to engage with the grand challenges of our times. Instead of understanding evolution as a gradual, path-dependent and geographically localized process, the current challenges result from various global political-economic transformations requiring an understanding of evolution as a outcome of variational and transformational change, the incorporation of macro-scale analysis, the augmentation of territorial with relational conceptualizations of space and a focus on historical analysis of political-economic development rather than ahistorical descriptions of regional outcomes of a generalized evolutionary process. We illustrate the potential impact of globalization on the competitive advantage of US metropolitan areas through an analysis of relations of unequal exchange between the USA and the Global South. The estimated value drain constitutes a potential source of revenue for producers in the North that complements the competitive advantages of cities based on superior localized technological performance.

Auch wenn (berufs-)bildungspolitische Diskussionen um Gleichwertigkeit, Durchlässigkeit, Anerkennung und aktuell um Verberuflichung des Akademischen und Akademisierung des Beruflichen eine Annäherung allgemeiner und beruflicher Bildung vermuten lassen, ist die Frage nach dem Verhältnis dieser beiden Bildungen nicht eindeutig gelöst. Vielmehr stehen nach wie vor unterschiedliche Positionen nebeneinander. Im folgenden Beitrag geht es weniger um die Frage danach, was beide Bildungen eint, trennt und wie sie miteinander verbunden werden können. Vielmehr soll sich der Frage angenähert werden, von welchen übergreifenden historischen bildungstheoretischen und -politischen Gedanken und Ereignissen beide Bereiche betroffen waren und sind, und wie diese die Verhältnisfrage tangiert und entschieden haben. Unter drei historisch widersprüchlichen Aspekten, von denen sowohl die allgemeine als auch die berufliche Bildung betroffen sind, wird thematisiert, wie diese Widersprüche intern, also im Verhältnis zwischen Allgemeinbildung und Berufsbildung als Idee und allgemeiner und beruflicher Bildung als soziale Realität historisch gelöst wurden. Zu diesen übergreifenden Widersprüchen gehören: Bildung für alle und die soziale Portionierung von Bildung, Allseitigkeit von Bildung und Halbbildung und allgemeine Nützlichkeit von Bildung und Ökonomisierung. Die Frage, die mit diesem Beitrag angestoßen werden soll, ist, wie über Bildung übergreifend nachgedacht werden kann, damit allgemeine und berufliche Bildung nicht mehr gegeneinander ausgespielt werden und ohne Ungleichwertigkeiten ineinanderfließen, sich abgrenzen und ergänzen können.
