W artykule przedstawiona została analiza czynników i efektów lokalizacji zakładu produkcyjnego Volkswagen Crafter w Białężycach koło Wrześni. Uzyskane wyniki oparte są na wywiadach przeprowadzonych z przedstawicielami przedsiębiorstwa i władz samorządowych oraz z mieszkańcami. Badanie pozwoliło wykazać, że w zakresie czynników lokalizacji – obok kosztowych (związanych z terenem inwestycji i ulgami podatkowymi) – znaczenie miały też czynniki zaopatrzeniowe (m.in. oczekiwana wydajność pracy) oraz "miękkie" (m.in. dobry wizerunek regionu, współpraca z władzami lokalnymi). Wśród korzyści dla powiatu wrzesińskiego, jakie wynikają z inwestycji i działań podejmowanych przez władze zakładu, są przede wszystkim: utworzenie nowych miejsc pracy, sponsoring lokalnych imprez i wydarzeń, finansowanie akcji prośrodowiskowych, a także wzrost obrotów w lokalnym sektorze usługowym, napływ mieszkańców i lokalizowanie firm współpracujących z Volkswagenem.

In many studies of clusters – currently a topical subject matter of many regional analyses – authors indicate that the spatial proximity of economic agents positively influences the possibility of cooperation and knowledge exchange (both spontaneous and purposeful). However, geographical proximity can be understood differently: it depends on conditions characteristic of countries and regions. In this paper I investigate to what extent knowledge transfer links, created by agents of clusters during formal cooperation, appear within, or reach outside, the administrative regions of Western Poland. To that end, I create an operational definition of "regional closure" with an equation for measuring it. The results prove that although most links in cluster organisations are created within regions (on NUTS-2 and NUTS-3 level), their spatial range depends on the line of business and type of projects implemented by a cluster.

AbstractThe COVID‐19 pandemic in 2020–2021 has created an unprecedented incentive to digitize firms. This paper aims to explore how European companies may have responded to COVID‐19 through digitalization. An online survey of experts from 22 European countries showed that software technologies supporting online meetings, remote working and e‐commerce began to be widely adopted during the pandemic. Online meetings and the reduction of business travel are perceived as common, long‐term effects of digitalization in European companies after the COVID‐19 pandemic. The barriers to digitalization and the measures considered to be the most effective in supporting digitalization have also been identified.

Industry 4.0, a concept comprising a range of promising innovations enabled by the recent advancements in digital technologies, has become a priority of industrial policy in many European countries and regions. In this paper we present actions undertaken by regional organisations (including the so called Digital Innovation Hubs), fostering adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies in manufacturing companies. Using examples from Germany, Italy and Poland, we show actions that both allow to create general conditions for such implementations, but also help individual companies to create individual strategy for adopting Industry 4.0 innovations.

Cohesion Policy has provided new impulses for development in Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs) that continue to be challenged by regional disparities. This paper investigates the effects of the European Union Cohesion Policy on regional development. After presenting historical development patterns of the investigated area and opportunities afforded by this policy, its effects on a variety of indicators are analysed for the period 2007–2014. The analysis allowed confirming positive effects of EU Cohesion Policy on the development of CEE regions. However, these effects differ across the investigated area. Moving forward, it will be crucial to develop institutions and policies characteristic to each region that are stable and efficient without external funds. ; Kohezní politika nabídla zemím střední a východní Evropy nové impulzy využitelné k čelení problematiky regionálních disparit. Článek prozkoumává dopady Kohezní politiky Evropské unie na rozvoj regionů. Po prezentaci historických rozvojových trajektorií a příležitostí, které politika nabízí, analyzuje dopady programového období 2007 - 2014 na různé rozvojové indikátory. Analýza potvrzuje pozitivní efekty Kohezní politiky na rozvoj regionů zemí střední a východní Evropy. Tyto efekty jsou však poměrně variabilní.
