PurposeDivorce has negative effects on children, although emotions that children experience after parental divorce are open to different interpretations. Accordingly, this study was conducted to explore loneliness in children of divorce.Design/methodology/approachA constructivist grounded theory study was carried out through the lens of definitive guidelines provided by Charmaz (2006). The participants were 15 female children aged 11–12 years, who were purposively selected. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and memos. To analyze data, the authors used four coding techniques, including initial, focused, axial, and theoretical coding. Also, to examine the links between the identified themes, the authors focused on three factors: conditions, actions/interactions, and consequences.FindingsThe analysis of the obtained data through the above-mentioned stages led to the identification of three main themes, including parental unavailability, rejection, and mistrust, which shaped children's experience of loneliness through lack of physical access, lack of emotional access, low levels of parental expectations, lack of supervision, absence of belongingness, being ignored, pessimistic views, and insecure relationships.Originality/valueAs was suggested by attachment theory, children of divorce lost their attachment bonds with their parents that intensified their perception of loneliness and negatively affected their social and academic performance. It was revealed that, effects of divorce went beyond the loss of the attachment bonds in families because our participants talked about their relationships with peers and their position in a society, where divorce carries the social stigma and children of divorced mother are marginalized.

A variety of factors contribute to causes the couple's vulnerabilities, including the personality traits that affect the couple's healthy relationships. This study mainly aims to identify the couple's vulnerabilities, notably women, with symptoms of the histrionic personality disorder. This is a qualitative study with a content analysis approach. The data collection process consists of 17 semi-structured interviews with the therapists, men with histrionic spouses, and the women with histrionic personality disorder, and using the related literature. The sampling process started purposefully and continued until data saturation. The data analysis led to the extraction of three categories including functional vulnerabilities, relationship vulnerabilities, and emotional vulnerabilities. Findings showed that personality traits of a histrionic woman dramatically affect the obvious individual behaviors and interpersonal relationships including couple's relationships.

<p>This study aimed to explore the psychological spouse abuse against men in a sample of Iranian couples. This qualitative study used the grounded theory in triangulation. The statistical population consisted of a compilation of electronic resources, books, theses, and journals, family counseling experts' opinions and men who suffered from spouse abuse in Isfahan. Purposeful sampling began and continued until saturation of the categories. Data collection consisted of 15 semi-structured interviews with abused married men, 10 interviews with family counseling experts and content analysis of books, articles, and journals related to psychological spouse abuse. The results showed that some cases of spouse abuse against the men are neglecting the spouse' needs, lack of commitment and accountability, arbitrary behavior, turning to anti-moral values and some habits and annoying personality traits. Spouse abuse is rooted in social, religious, economic, environmental, cultural backgrounds and family life. Intervening factors include factors related to the others, personality traits of the abused person and background factors. The causal factors include the interpersonal conditions and personality types. The most important strategy for men against spouse abuse include aggressive-confronting response, silence, peaceful, defense, reform reaction and alternative reaction. The psychological consequences of marital violence include, individual, interpersonal, family, and social consequences. As a result, psychological spouse abuse against men is affected by a number of factors that were discussed in this study.</p>

AbstractHaving adolescents affect many aspects of the parent's lives. The aim of this study was to investigate the parenting challenges within the cultural background of Iranian mothers. The participants consisted of 24 mothers who were selected using a purposive sampling method. Semistructured interviews were recorded and transcribed for further analysis. To analyse the data, a thematic analysis was carried out. The analysis of the data shows that for Iranian mothers, parenting challenges are categorised into seven themes: (a) Sense of diminished power and control, (b) Sense of inadequacy, (c) Lack of father's participation, (d) New situation, coping and resolve, (e) Altered relationships issues, (f) Unfulfilled expectations, and (g) Environmental threats. Based on the findings of our study, parenting challenges are culture-bound and controversial, and dealing with them requires parental training.
