Starting from the most important results of Campopiano's work, the contribution highlights how the recipients of the cultural memory shaped by the friars of Mount Sion were a much wider circle than the "pilgrims" who went to the Holy Land. It then discusses three main issues. Firstly, it considers the different social and political profiles of the European pilgrims, the variety of expectations of the people who visited Mount Sion, supported with money these places, sustained the status of the Franciscan Custody with political and diplomatic activities carried out in the European chancelleries. Within this framework it is examined the multiplicity of factors that urge the friars of the 14th c. to build the geographical and cultural centrality of the Holy Land entirely re-sacralised in Franciscan terms, implementing it during the next three centuries. Finally, it is proposed the enlargement of the texts that must be examined and correlated with the fundamental sources analysed by the author. Above all, the texts produced by the Franciscans of the Custody should be investigated, in order to organize their economic and political life within the Muslim territories dominated first by the Mamluks and then by the Ottoman sultans. ; A partire dai più importanti risultati del lavoro di Campopiano, il contributo evidenzia come i destinatari della memoria culturale messa in forma dai frati del Sion siano una cerchia molto più ampia rispetto ai "pellegrini" che si recavano in Terra Santa. Esso discute quindi tre questioni principali. Innanzitutto, considera la variegata fisionomia sociale e politica dei pellegrini europei, le diverse aspettative di chi visitava il convento del Sion, di coloro che sostenevano col denaro i Luoghi Santi, di chi, dalle cancellerie d'Europa, si adoperava con attività politiche e diplomatiche per garantire lo status della Custodia. In questa prospettiva è analizzata la molteplicità di fattori che spingono i frati del XIV secolo a configurare la centralità geografica e culturale della Terra Santa ...

ITALIANO: La discussione comparata dei due compendi valorizza in particolare l'impianto didattico e la contestualizzazione storica delle fonti che offre nuove prospettive conoscitive per la storia del pensiero politico medievale. Si segnalano le novità specifiche dei due testi. Tra di esse l'importanza del sapere giuridico nel volume di Lambertini - Conetti, la centralità di Brunetto Latini e di Tolomeo da Lucca in Briguglia, la ridiscussione del peso dell'aristotelismo politico in entrambi i volumi. Si propone inoltre una rilettura della concezione del dominium proposta nel De regia potestate di Quidort confrontandola con la testualità che discute della proprietà e dello statuto della moneta nel XIV secolo. Una secondo confronto viene proposto tra la posizione di Quidort e le discussioni sulla natura personale delle imposte patrimoniali elaborate dai giuristi Bérmond de Montferrier e Pierre Jame tra fine XIII e pieno XIV secolo. / ENGLISH: The comparative discussion of the two volumes highlights their specific didactic approach and the historical contextualization of the sources thus offering new perspectives on the history of medieval political thought. The specific features of the two books are also underlined. Among them: the relevance of legal knowledge in the volume by Lambertini and Conetti, the centrality of Brunetto Latini and Tolomeo da Lucca in Briguglia's, the reapparaisal of the role of politi-cal aristotelianism, which is shared by the three scholars. Moreover, the volumes reconsider Quidort's conception of dominium, expressed in his De potestate regia, by comparing it to the textualiy that discussed the ownership and status of money in the 14th century. Secondly, this same concept of Quidort is compared to the discussion about the personal nature of property taxes elaborated by two jurists, Bérmond de Montferrier and Pierre Jame between the end of 13th and the mid-14th century.

This essay aims to shed light upon one of the main relationships between two texts written by Oresme: the De Moneta and Le Livre de politiques. The significance of the word («parole») was examined in the latter: a faculty belonging only to the man who lives, communicates and trades in the civitas; the man that has to order things and actions in the sphere of expediens, i.e. what is useful, or in the sphere of the nocivum, what is detrimental. In Oresmian texts, this discursive faculty, that was already examined by Albertus Magnus and Thomas of Aquin, becomes directly analytical, taxonomical and provides the ethical dimension to things and actions. In Le Livre, this triple faculty belongs to the «parole»: the elementary brick of the human discourse. The « homme civile » alone is able to seize the meaning and the value of the utilitas: what can be considered, or proven, useful, proper and profitable. He is able to distinguish, along a scale of equivalencies and balances, things and actions that can be defined just or unjust, but only as a result of the previous analytical path made by the «parole». After this analysis the political function of money, established in his oldest text, De moneta, appears strictly connected with the political function of the «parole» defined in Le livre.

This section which is being proposed to the readers of RM focuses on the publication of two companions to the history of medieval political thought published almost simultaneously in Italy and both written by Italian scholars. The discussion has been entrusted to three historians coming from different academic schools and from distinct cultural milieux. The choice to assign the discussion to non-Italian scholars has also sprung from the fact that in these last years no similar companions have been published either in Europe or in the United States. As a matter of fact, no recent comparable books have been published that combine an effort at synthesis with a didactic approach. Scordia, Nederman and Juncosa all underline this last observation, highlighting specific novelties (the new approach towards Aristotelianism), differences (i. e. the length of the period investigated, the contribution to legal knowledge, the role of Brunetto Latini) and also shortcomings, partly due to the nature of these editorial products (i.e. the role of parliaments, the underestimation of some specific European contributions). But all three scholars note a few specific features of both books that appear as a veritable progress from the didactic and heuristic perspectives: the capacity elucidate the strong connections between the genesis and contents of the texts within their historical context. A fourth essay concludes this section, which makes some specific remarks on both books and proposes to include other sources for the study the history of the powers and sovereignties in the Middle Ages (and therefore for the history of medieval political thought). The last appraisal focuses firstly on the texts concerning the status of money and its property, and, secondly, it underlines the relevance of the legal discussions about the personal nature of property taxes. ; La pubblicazione quasi simultanea di due compendi di storia del pensiero politico medievale, entrambi proposti da studiosi italiani, è all'origine di questa sezione di discussione proposta ai lettori di «Reti Medievali Rivista». Si è voluto affidare questo confronto a tre storici provenienti non solo da diverse scuole accademiche, ma da specifiche e differenti sensibilità culturali. Si è scelto di coinvolgere tre studiosi non italiani anche in ragione del fatto che il panorama storiografico ed editoriale non registra ormai da molti anni una analoga proposta di sintesi storica né un analogo sforzo didattico. Lo si può constatare osservando sia la produzione editoriale europea sia quella oltreatlantica. Scordia, Nederman e Juncosa hanno messo in luce diversi elementi innovativi dei due profili al centro della discussione rilevandone specificità (ad es. il nuovo approccio al ruolo dell'aristotelismo politico), differenze (il contributo della sapienza giuridica, il ruolo di Brunetto Latini, il periodo cronologico indagato) e inevitabili carenze, dovute anche al taglio editoriale delle opere. Da questo punto di vista è stata sottolineata la sottovalutazione dell'apporto proveniente da alcuni territori europei e di alcune tematiche come, ad esempio, il ruolo delle assemblee rappresentative. Tutti e tre hanno invece convenuto nell'evidenziare un'originalità che si potrà definire come un vero avanzamento conquistato dai due volumi sul piano euristico e su quello didattico: la capacità di mettere in dialogo i testi, la loro genesi, il loro specifico apporto teoretico, con i rispettivi contesti storici. Il dossier si chiude con un quarto contributo che contiene una serie di osservazioni sui due importanti compendi e una proposta volta ad includere alcune specifiche tipologie di fonti nel novero di quelle utilizzate per tracciare la storia dei poteri pensati nel medioevo e, dunque, per fare la storia del pensiero politico medievale. La proposta si concentra sulla testualità che discute della proprietà e dello statuto della moneta e sui testi giuridici che definiscono la natura personale delle imposte patrimoniali.

The medieval experience of the Franciscans is marked by the decision of acting in different societies. In this context the awareness of their presence bring them to focus on the requirements that, by themselves, can legitimize the political authority.If in Scoto legitimacy is exclusively founding by the consensus of the people who voluntarily choose to confer its power to an authority, if in Ockham the legitimacy of power is conditioned by the double principle of circumnstantiality and functional efficency, in Eiximenis the basis of the authority is submit to a double temperament. First of all the authority can never be considered as an exercise of plenitudo potestatis due to a constitutional principle: the ruler of a community derives his power not only from the consensus but from an agreed pact in which is clearly fixed circles and ends of his action. The second one regards the co-essential condition of the legitimacy: the power of the ruler has a strictly functional justification. This kind of authority must ensure not only the classicals peace and justice, it has to become an engine of the process looking for the "millor estament de la cosa pública", for the economic emprovement of the subjects belonging to the political communitiy, but also of those who could enter in it by a specific and very well circunscribed pathways of integration. ; L'esperienza medievale dei Minori è caratterizzata dalla decisione di svolgere un ruolo attivo nelle realtà sociali nelle quali l'Ordine si inserisce. Nella storiografi a contemporanea, politica ed economica, continua a prevalere una lettura dell'opera di Weber secondo cui la nascita dell'economia di mercato costituisce un novum dirompente della e per la christianitas in quanto società costruita sulla caritas e sulla communitas. Si analizzano qui due testi patristici, esemplifi cativi della tradizione orientale ed occidentale, dove la chiave interpretativa dell'esistenza cristiana è tutta condotta in un orizzonte creditizio e contrattualistico, a partire dalla riflessione sul Cristo, modello caritativo e redentivo. Nella seconda parte del saggio questo portato patristico viene messo in luce attraverso gli affi oramenti e gli sviluppi rintracciabili nei testi del XIV secolo prodotti in area catalano-aragonese. Testi scritti in latino ed in volgare da esponenti che appartengono all'Ordo di Francesco d'Assisi od hanno nei Minori un punto di riferimento identitario. In queste opere sezioni significative dedicate alla Passio Christi, al suo valore pedagogico per l'agire cristiano, diventano esplicitamente codici etici e normativi per l'azione politica e di governo, per la corretta gestione dell'economia e dei mercati. Si tratta di analisi puntuali che interrogano gli oggetti indagati, moneta, contratto, pratiche mercantili, per comprenderne il signifi cato ed il valore politico e per formulare codici destinati ai cives, ai mercatores ma, in primis, ai governanti. Siamo dunque dinanzi a testi che - anche per il tramite della rifl essione cristologica - forniscono alle comunità politiche dell'Europa medievale, occidentale e cristiana, un vocabolario politico, ma anche precise strutture dottrinali e di legittimazione dell'agire economico le quali si connettono direttamente ad una testualità politica che affi orerà in un arco cronologico compreso quantomeno tra Biel ed Althusius. ; In the political and economical historiography, the interpretation of the Weberian analysis about the origin of market economy, is still read, in a large number of texts, as an upsetting novum for the Christianitas. Because the Christian society is considered as a social structure which is built on, and into, the charitas (charity) and communitas (community). Here we examine two Patristic texts, as illustrative examples of the Eastern and Western tradition, where the Christian life is interpreted and analyzed through a pattern of words and concepts derived from the world of credit and contract, words that are firstly employed to explain the life of Christ Redeemer, as a model of charity (charitas) and largesse (largitio). In the second part of the essay this Patristic heritage comes out through the appearances and developments that we can read in the 14th century texts produced in the territories of the Aragonese Crown. These texts are written in Latin and in vulgar languages by representatives of the Ordo of St. Francis or by people who have very close relationship with it. Important parts of these works -which are devoted to the Passio Christi, to his pedagogical value for Christian life- become unequivocally ethical and normative codices for the governmental and political activities, for the correct handling of economy and markets. All of these passages are precise analysis that investigate the role of money, contract and the merchant practices, to understand their meaning and political value, to formulate a codex of discipline for merchants, citizens, but in primis, for government leaders. So these texts provide the political communities of the Western Medieval Christian Europe -even through the Christological reflection- with a lexicon, but also with precise doctrinal structures and tools of legitimation for the economic actions. These kind of structures and tools are directly connected with a political textuality which will surface during the age dating from Gabriel Biel until Johannes Althusius.

Résumé Ont été croisés des textes produits à la cour parthénopéenne d'Alphonse, en particulier Des devoirs du prince par Diomede Carafa, avec des textes franciscains produits dans le cadre catalano-aragonais. L' utilitas publica n'est pas superposable ou interchangeable avec celle du souverain. Elle a une valeur communautaire, construction d'un bien-être général procuré notamment par la confiance. Les réflexions de Carafa ont plusieurs points en commun avec ce qu'écrivit frère Eiximenis à peu près un siècle auparavant.

Els conceptes de res publica i monarquia d'Eiximenis són de gran interès per conèixer la matriu medieval del pensament polític. L'autor analitza de quina manera «la doctrina dada per Jesucrist» defineix en clau pactista la relació entre cives i monarquia i estableix alhora una fidelització entre el rei i el ciutadà. Eiximenis construeix una sèrie de símbols identitaris, els quals, a partir del valor polític de Crist, esdevenen un element essencial del lligam entre els cives-fideles i la res publica. El model del Crist de la passió i de la creu esdevé el paradigma que justifica la legitimitat del mercat i de la pràctica financera en les comunitats cristianes. ; Eiximenis's concepts of res publica and monarchy are of great interest for knowing the medieval matrix of political thinking. The author analyses the way in which «the doctrine given by Jesus Christ» defines with spirit of agreement the relation between cives and monarchy and at the same time establishes a certain faithfulness between the king and the citizen. Eiximenis constructs a series of identity symbols, which, by means of Christ's political value, become an essential feature of the link between cives-fideles and the res publica. Christ's model of passion and cross becomes the paradigm that justifies the legitimacy of the market and the financial practice in the Christian communities.

La testualità francescana di area catalano-aragonese è una fonte importante del discorso politico e della costruzione delle identità comunitarie. Tra gli aspetti più significativi emerge il discorso sul valore e la funzione della moneta. Sin da Arnau de Vilanova la moneta esprime, e veicola, la forza e l'identità di una comunità politica. Attraverso di essa si viene a definire il ruolo degli attori economici, civili e politici agenti negli spazi comunitari. Si mette anche in discussione un assunto storiografico secondo cui «la costellazione dei concetti della modernità politica irrompe dalla denegazione di ciò che l'aveva preceduta». Se questa argomentazione sostiene che il lemma e la nozione di «contratto», definitosi da Hobbes, è il «luogo genetico» della modernità, resta irrintracciabile la cesura con il "non moderno". Nel rapporto che connette fides, moneta e identità nei testi medievali francescani che progettano comunità di cives-fideles lo spazio comunitario diviene infatti arena pubblica e legale, istituzionalizzandosi. E nello spazio del mercato, costitutivo di quello comunitario, convergono volontà diverse che contrattano ambiti e limiti di sovranità economiche e finanziarie, ma altrettanto consapevolmente politiche. ; The Franciscan textuality of Catalan-Aragonese area is an important source of the political discourse and of the construction of community identities. Among the most significant aspects emerge the discourse about the value and function of money. Since Arnau de Vilanova the currency expresses and conveys the strength and identity of a political community: through it is to define the role of economic, civil and political agents in community areas. It also puts into question an historiographical assumption: «the constellation of concepts of political modernity erupts from the denial of what had preceded itì». If this argument asserts that the lemma and the concept of «contract», defined since Hobbes, is "the genetic location" of modernity, remains untraceable the break with the "not modern ". In the relationship that connects fides, money and identity in medieval Franciscan texts that design communities of cives-fideles, the community space becomes public and legal arena, institutionalized. And in the space of the market, constituitive of the space of the community, different wills converge negotiating areas and limits of economic and financial sovereignties, but equally conscious political ones.
