Abstract
This article conceptualizes Iraq's medical diplomatic missions as inter-Asian linkages that rested on solidarity movements, professional networks, and the commitments of medical experts. It traces the machinations of Iraq's medical diplomacy, specifically the agendas and processes of advancing health care as humanitarian aid at a time when social unrest and outbreaks of infectious diseases led to mass inoculation and biosurveillance programs supported by regional and international medical missions. The emergence of semi-trained inoculators coupled with efforts to expand medical education faculties prompted the increase of medical labor production for both domestic and diplomatic purposes. Iraq's Cold War medical diplomacy was prismatic, multilateral and multidirectional. The dispensation and reception of biological protection, scientific technologies, and medical labor transformed Iraq into a site of biomedical knowledge production.

This article contemplates Iraq's archive fever, a repositioning of Freud's death-drive as prescribed by Jacques Derrida, to contextualize the feverish obsession with Iraq's archives. It promotes a grammar to describe the ways in which western institutions have consistently legitimized the dismembering of Iraqi archives in order to oversee and profit from digitization projects. This process is an orientalist pursuit to command Iraq's history through the restructuration and transplantation of archives along with the exclusion of Iraqis from accessing its new form. This critique begins by describing the etymologies of archive fever, then shifts to highlight the discourse on the transposing of Iraq's archive and concludes with an examination of masters and doctoral research to study how graduate students in Iraq overcame archival plunder and dislocation. The prevalence of source material in Iraq constitutes the building blocks of Iraqi graduate students' theses and dissertations, underscoring the fallacies of digitizing plundered records.

AbstractThis article explores the history of Iraqi women's participation in the medical profession as accredited physicians in the first half of the twentieth century. It begins with a discussion of women's exclusion from late Ottoman medical education faculties and their reliance on lay practice as a form of medical training. Women's ascension in the medical profession was further thwarted by colonial accreditation requirements and a series of laws that emerged during the British occupation and the ensuing mandate. Gradually and in limited numbers, some women were afforded "subordinate ranks" under the British administration. When women of capital expressed interest in and mobilized their networks to gain access to the medical profession as physicians, limited admission into the local medical faculty became viable. Tactical aversions made professional pursuits difficult for segments of the population under study. Those who gained access to the medical profession navigated gendered occupational specialism that in turn shaped their professional trajectories.

This piece presents an exploration of the conditions of the remaining archives and libraries in Nineveh in the aftermath of Islamic State (IS). Civilians preserved, recovered and restored important sources and libraries that were at risk of being looted or destroyed by IS or damaged or lost during the 2016 liberation campaign.

Frantz Fanon (1925–1961) was a Martinique-born psychiatrist, theorist, philosopher, playwright, and a leading political actor and figure in the struggle for decolonization. Between the publication of his two best-known works, Black Skin, White Masks (Peau Noire, Masques Blancs), in 1952 and The Wretched of the Earth (Les Damnés de la Terre) in 1961, Fanon defended his medical thesis in Paris, was a resident psychiatrist at the Blida-Joinville Hospital in Algeria, and published several more books and numerous clinical and critical articles advancing counter-narratives on colonialism and colonial psychiatry in various medical and radical journals. In the following decades, his work would become canonical in postcolonial studies, and has shaped the common parlance of scholarship on the Global South. This vignette showcases Fanon's contribution through an examination of his most prevalent scholarship and theories, and a brief summary of his influence on decolonization studies.

Abstract
This article traces the emergence of juvenile delinquency as a legal and medical category in Hashemite Iraq (1921–58). We argue that as children and youth became increasingly visible through actions and inactions that highlighted the weaknesses of political and social structures, state institutions adopted international frameworks and vernaculars concerning the participation of youth in labor. Medicine played a key role in defining the "juvenile" and determining young people's physical abilities and, by extension, their productive potential. Focusing on children and youth who were for the most part unaffiliated with organized political groups, the article demonstrates that Iraq's correctional facilities, including reformatories, were integral to the Hashemite state's attempt at crafting and regulating citizens. Juvenile delinquency was also a uniquely gendered and classed category. Gender in particular became a distinguishing marker that in effect deprived young women and girls of the juvenile status that allowed mostly lower-class young men and boys to access reformatories rather than adult prisons. While defiant young men and boys who were considered as potentially redeemable gained access to judicial and social institutions that aimed to rehabilitate the juvenile delinquent, the crimes of young women and girls were often sexualized and assessed according to interpretations of maturity determined by the onset of puberty rather than legal age.
