The study analyses the political changes in the context of changes in the lifeworlds of inhabi- tants of Jundrov/Jundorf, a small suburban community on the outskirts of an industrial city (Brno/Brünn). The change in the social profile in the community affected by industrialisation is also reflected in the changes of the direction of information flows and of public issues. Mutual personal acquaintance of the inhabitants contributed to the specification of conflicts in national and ideological disputes. The system of local authorities based on the harmony of interests of the aristocratic family and the major landowners was gradually eroded under the pressure of secularisation, the rise of socialist movement and the canvassing of progressive intelligentsia related to Brno. The transformation of the suburban community into an urban neighbourhood on both political and lifeworld levels was completed by the wave of radicalisation connected with the end of World War I. ; The study analyses the political changes in the context of changes in the lifeworlds of inhabi- tants of Jundrov/Jundorf, a small suburban community on the outskirts of an industrial city (Brno/Brünn). The author uses microhistory to understand working class and working-class culture. The major drawbacks for microhistorical research are the small number of authentic primary sources from the lower social classes in the nineteenth century and the frequent political manipulation of sources related to the history of the working class and its interpretation in the twentieth century. The current state of research into themes using microhistorical methodology demonstrates a lack of thorough methodological debate and exposes prob- lems within Czech historiography. It is from this frame of reference that the author analyses the historiography of the past decades and suggests possible trends for microhistorical research. The article makes a number of references to works from Czech historical studies using microhistorical methods in working-class contexts. ; The author uses microhistory to understand working class and working-class culture. This text summarises the results of extensive research into the relationship between the state and universities in 1849–1939, i.e. between the so-called 'Thun reform' and the closure of Czech universities by the Nazis. The focus is on the state's respect for the privileged position of universities and the monitoring of tensions arising from the clash between legislation and the universities' day-to-day operations, resulting mainly from satisfying the economic needs of universities on the one hand, and the interpretation of the responsibility and discipline of their academic staff towards the state and society on the other. The research shows the advancing erosion of the so-called Prussian (Humboldt's) concept of an autonomous national-oriented university and the difficult search for a democratic alternative in interwar Central Europe's unstable political and economic conditions.

This text examines the issue of the professional status of Czechoslovak university teachers during the interwar period from the perspective of a shift from a liberal to a post-liberal university arrangement. The authors approach the theme using legal-historical methodology and attention is largely focused on the discussions surrounding the attempt to change the legal regulations relating to autonomy. The study looks at the significant differences in the interpretation of university autonomy within the academic community and follows the changes in attitude towards this important liberal theme in the light of the crisis and breakup of the interwar Czechoslovak regime during the period 1936-1938.
