In Städten gibt es viele Möglichkeiten für den Klimaschutz. Aber wie wird Klimaschutz in die Tat umgesetzt? Wer ist zuständig, wer muss mitmachen, wie schwierig ist es, wie kann die Umsetzung unterstützt werden? Um diese Fragen zu klären, werden häufig »Reallabore« durchgeführt, in denen Wissenschaftler*innen gemeinsam mit Verwaltung, Politik und der lokalen Bevölkerung Ideen entwickeln und konkret ausprobieren. Wissenschaft kommt so aus dem Elfenbeinturm heraus und muss sich im echten Leben bewähren – was in der Theorie gut klingt, wird in der konkreten Umsetzung allerdings schnell kafkaesk. Das Ausprobieren scheitert oft an strikten Regularien, absurden Missverständnissen und dem Eigensinn der Beteiligten. Dieses Buch stellt mit einem Augenzwinkern Erfahrungen aus einem Reallabor vor, das von 2016 bis 2022 in Hamburg durchgeführt wurde. Der Blick hinter die Kulissen zeigt die skurrilen Herausforderungen – und liefert dennoch ein Plädoyer dafür, Reallabore für den Klimaschutz zu nutzen.

The demands of the climate movement - for rapid and profound change - are based on scientific findings and the political commitments to the Paris Agreement. The activists are, therefore, factually "right". However, being right is not enough to justify or to accelerate the practical implementation of knowledge and decisions. We explain which social factors are at work, and how the climate movement can benefit if they incorporate these factors into actions for social change.
