El deslinde, y el posterior amojonamiento, permite delimitar de forma exacta sobre el terreno la porción del territorio perteneciente a propietarios distintos; tal como los límites que definen una servidumbre señalan la zona en que un propietario tiene limitados sus derechos. En España, la ubicación de estas líneas de separación en muchos casos es confusa; sobre todo en zonas rústicas, en donde los linderos pocas veces están claramente materializados en el terreno, dando lugar a multitud de conflictos relacionados con los límites de propiedad. En cuanto a la legislación correspondiente a deslindes y servidumbres, ésta es muy diversa, y sobre todo dispersa, ya que dicha legislación la podemos encontrar en multitud de leyes y reglamentos, dependiendo de su tipo: aguas, costas, montes, vías pecuarias, hidrocarburos, ¿ ley de enjuiciamiento civil, código civil, etc. El fin de esta problemática se solucionaría plasmando gráficamente y de un modo exacto todas estas líneas de separación en un plano; para ello son fundamentales la cartografía y la topografía pues permiten dibujar de un modo inequívoco los límites entre propietarios y, sobre todo, entre el dominio público y el privado ; Surveys and markings of boundaries allow mapping the portion of territory belonging to different owners on terrain as the limits that define an easement mark the zone in which landlords have their rights restrained. [ES] In this article, the aim is to carry out a survey of the various types of boundaries and easements that can be found in Spain. The most interesting cases are those determined by the administration and regulated by the current legislation. In terms of boundaries and easements, the work of the Technical Engineer in Topography is crucial in defining the areas of action, giving physical expression to them or drawing up a map showing this information. First, information is collected on the basis of the laws governing each specific subject, and the sections in which the Technical Engineer in Topography is involved are examined in more detail. In the case of demarcation areas, they clearly distinguish between public and private land, thus demarcating the land where the administration may carry out activities aimed at improvement. On the other hand, in easements, their imposition is linked to an improvement in the conditions of use of the areas in which they are established. A good definition and precise delimitation of the areas affected by the boundaries and easements makes it possible to ensure a more efficient management of the territory. This information can be set out in detail at a later stage in the mapping of the area, allowing it to be included in a Geographical Information System, considering it as an added value to the territory, taking it into account for the final decision making. Land demarcation is a fundamental requirement when determining to what extent property owners and public administrations can apply their rights. Just as international boundaries must be clearly marked so that there can be no doubt as to which jurisdiction is to be applied, municipal boundaries must be clearly defined in order to avoid disputes between local administrations. In Spain the Geographical Institute carried out the demarcation of all municipal boundaries at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, defined their limits on cadastral maps and represented them on the 1:50,000 scale National Topographical Map. At the present time, more than a hundred years after this survey, in many cases parts of the original municipal limits have been lost for one reason or another, both on the maps and on the ground itself, and it has now become necessary to take steps to recover them. This paper defines a method of using the municipal councils own historical information to trace original boundary lines. The work included both a study and a series of tests carried out in different municipal areas in the Province of Valencia, Spain. The original reports and field notebooks of the Geographical Institute were used as the basic material of the study, supported by cadastral maps from different periods, as well as historical and contemporary orthophotos to help locate possible boundary markers.
