International audience ; This paper presents France's relation to climate change from the perspectives of the French overseas territories: the Outre-mer. Scattered across the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and the Pacific Ocean, these formerly colonized territories are subnational jurisdictions of France. Through examining their greenhouse gas emissions, their ecological importance, their economic conditions, as well as their policies, I argue that understanding the Outre-mer climate change perspectives demands an epistemic shift characterized by two theoretical gestures. Firstly, the Outre-mer perspectives require moving beyond the single geographical imaginary of France that only represents its European mainland. Contributing very little to France's greenhouse gas emissions, these territories are particularly exposed and particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, making the case for a subnational climate justice. Secondly, beyond their portrayal as foreign and voiceless victims, the Outre-mer perspectives also recognize the presence of postcolonial subjects as political and historical actors facing climate change, calling forcefully for postcolonial equality and social justice. ; Cet article présente la relation de la France au changement climatique du point de vue des territoires français d'outre-mer. Dispersés à travers l'océan Atlantique, l'océan Indien et l'océan Pacifique, ces anciens territoires colonisés sont des juridictions infranationales françaises. En examinant leurs émissions de gaz à effet de serre, leur importance écologique, leurs conditions économiques et leurs politiques, je soutiens que les expériences ultramarines du changement climatique suggèrent un changement épistémique caractérisé par deux gestes théoriques. Tout d'abord, les perspectives d'Outre-Mer exigent de dépasser un imaginaire géographique de la France qui ne représente que le continent européen. Contribuant très peu aux émissions de gaz à effet de serre de la France, ces territoires sont particulièrement exposés et particulièrement vulnérables aux effets du changement climatique, plaidant pour une justice climatique infranationale. Deuxièmement, au-delà de leur représentation de victimes étrangères et sans voix, les perspectives d'Outre-Mer reconnaissent également la présence de sujets postcoloniaux en tant qu'acteurs politiques et historiques confrontés au changement climatique, appelant avec force à l'égalité postcoloniale et à la justice sociale.

Outre les millions de déplacés par la traite négrière, la violence inouïe de peuples amérindiens entièrement décimés, les équilibres écologiques écroulés et le rythme sanglant d'un esclavage multiséculaire, l'une des conséquences les plus importantes des colonisations européennes dans la Caraïbe demeure l'apparente disparition de récits. Cet article s'intéresse à la portée décoloniale d'une recherche et genèse de récits écologiques comme des traces de résistance à travers la littérature de cette région.

Le début du xxi e siècle dans les départements d'outre-mer de Martinique et de Guadeloupe fut marqué par la (re)découverte d'une pollution des écosystèmes par une molécule organochlorée : le chlordécone. Son utilisation comme pesticide dans les bananeraies de ces îles entre 1972 et 1993 a engendré une contamination durable, généralisée et délétère pour la santé publique. Tout en rappelant les enjeux environnementaux, sanitaires et économiques de cette pollution, cet article entend montrer que cette affaire comporte aussi des enjeux politiques spécifiques à l'histoire de ces sociétés postcoloniales et postesclavagistes. En restituant les divers points conflictuels par lesquels des services de l'État sont mis en cause, nous décrivons la manière dont cette pollution devient le support de critiques de formes de discrimination des populations antillaises, soulevant la question de l'égalité des ultramarins devant la loi Française. Nous avançons alors l'argument que la discussion de ces enjeux politiques, notamment à travers certaines scènes, permet d'inscrire cette pollution dans l'horizon de construction d'un monde commun, si difficile après la colonisation.

International audience ; In the overseas départements of Martinique and Guadeloupe, the start of the 21st century was marked by the (re-)discovery of eco-system pollution by an organochlorate molecule : chlordecone. Its use as a pesticide in those islands'banana plantations from 1972 to 1993 led to contamination that was long-lasting, generalised, and deleterious to public health. The article re-states the environmental, sanitary, and economic challenges of that pollution, and sets out to show that the affair also includes political challenges that are specific to the history of those post-colonial, post-slavery societies. By re-stating the various points of conflict that call into question the services of the State, we describe how that pollution offers support to critics of forms of discrimination against the populations of the French West Indies, raising the question of the equality of overseas French citizens before French law.
