Villages that had underwent GlobeMed and MCHI water access, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) interventions tended to exhibit better sanitation and hygiene practices compared to control villages. Survey participants were directly recruited from households in eight rural villages that had previously received community-based WASH interventions in Nama sub-county, Uganda. All participants were adults (above eighteen) of varying ages and genders. The other participants were directly recruited from two rural villages who had not received any WASH intervention within Nama sub-county and served as our control groups. Participants were surveyed on various topics including water source quality and distance, prevalence of sickness, latrine management, and sanitation and hygiene practices. The effectiveness of WASH programs in GlobeMed and MCHI sponsored villages compared to control villages was measured using t-tests and Pearson Correlation Coefficients (R). Improved safe water and hygiene practices are fundamental to improving quality of life. Improved WASH related practices not only correlate with health, they ameliorate other frequently encountered inequities—like low school attendance—as education is a major factor in economic growth and alleviating poverty. Addressing WASH related problems can be challenging as they affect people from diverse communities and demographics. However, the most promising solutions arise when collaboration emerges between NGOs, governments, communities, and individuals.

O objetivo geral deste estudo foi analisar os estilos de liderança e as circunstâncias que os influenciam, de acordo com o nível organizacional dos líderes do Tribunal de Contas do Estado do Amazonas (TCE-AM). Para tanto, foi realizada uma pesquisa de natureza quantitativa, cujos dados foram coletados a partir de um questionário aplicado a 30 líderes. A técnica empregada para a interpretação das respostas foi a estatística descritiva com auxílio do software Microsoft Excel. Os resultados constatam que os líderes adaptam seu estilo de liderança, baseados nas variáveis que impactam no dia-a-dia do seu trabalho, sendo essas variáveis presentes no Continuum de liderança de Tannenbaum e Schmidt (1973). Também foi possível averiguar não somente as características do líder, mas também as dos liderados e das demandas de liderança. Apesar dos níveis organizacionais terem seus estilos parecidos, cada nível apresentou uma tendência no estilo de liderança, a qual foi observada por meio, também, do Continuum de liderança de Tannenbaum e Schmidt (1973). Os resultados apresentados neste estudo poderão ser utilizados como referências para novos aprofundamentos no âmbito acadêmico e prático sobre estilos de liderança na Administração Pública.

The objective of this study was to, through a meta-analysis of published data, evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation on the performance of beef cattle grazed on Brachiaria pastures during the rearing and finishing phases of growth. Data from 15 Brazilian studies were analyzed, totaling 462 animals given different types and levels of supplementation. Animals were divided into two categories: 319 in the rearing phase, and 143 in the finishing phase. The reviewed studies evaluated the effects of protein, energy, and protein/energy supplementation on animal performance parameters. Daily weight gain and final live weight were analyzed using forest plots. Daily weight gain during the rearing phase was similar across all supplement types used. Animals given supplementation gained an average of 119 g more per day compared to those who received no supplementation. Specifically, protein supplementation resulted in an increase of 28.22 kg. Animals given supplementation of any kind, represented by the subgroups shown in the plots, gained an average of 24.47 kg more compared to the control group.

Lead-acid battery manipulation is one of the major sources of environmental contamination of lead in developing and underdeveloped countries. For the preliminary investigation of the soil ecotoxicological potential of a mechanical workshop with deposit of lead-acid battery tailings, the avoidance behavior response test with Eisenia andrei and the phytotoxicity test with Lactuca sativa were made. The quantification of cadmium, copper, lead, zinc, manganese, iron and arsenic, was also performed. The level of lead found in the test soil was 56 times higher than the permitted value in Brazilian legislation, but the soil only showed toxicity in the avoidance behavior response test with earthworms. None of the phytotoxicity tests showed toxicity to lettuce seeds in germination rate and seedling length. This preliminary study confirms the contamination of these sites by lead and indicates that this contamination can cause damages to the edaphic fauna, suggesting further studies in areas contaminated by tailings of lead-acid batteries.

The region comprised of cities located in the extreme south of Brazil has numerous potential sources of pollution, such as industries, mining and agricultural activities. Despite this, they do not have detailed scientific information regarding air quality. The present study aimed to evaluate air quality in nine municipalities in the extreme south of Brazil, based on the monitoring of six pollutants (O3, NO2, SO2, PM2.5, PM10 and CO) present in Brazilian environmental legislation and the relationship of these pollutants with meteorological parameters. Information on air pollutants and meteorological parameters was collected from satellite data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts "Copernicus Atmospheric Monitoring Service", extracted using The Wealther Channel (IBM, USA) during the period ranged from April 25, 2020 to July 4, 2020 in Rio Grande, Pelotas, Bagé, Candiota, Hulha Negra, Pedras Altas, Aceguá and Herval. The concentration of pollutants was below Brazilian limits, with the exception of a single episode in the municipality of Rio Grande. Temperature was the meteorological parameter most correlated with air pollutants, except for SO2, but in general, all pollutants correlated (positive or negative) with at least one atmospheric parameter. Finally, the composition of air pollutants in each municipality seems to be related to its local economic activity. We encourage the continuity of studies in the region aiming at a complete temporal analysis that encompasses all seasons.
