Portugal has been demonstrating over the years a high dependence of imported fossil fuels, especially with regard to the transportation and electricity production sectors. The urgent need to balance supply and demand as well as the growing concern about environmental issues and reduction of external energy dependency justified an increasing interest in the exploitation of renewable energy sources (RES) looking for more efficient strategies in terms of economic and social or environmental dimensions. The electricity sector represented a clear example of this RES trend with European and Portuguese policies focused on strategies promoting renewable resources and energy efficiency. Following different studies already conducted in other countries, this paper presents an approach to a possible 100% renewable electricity scenario in Portugal, supported by the application of the model EnergyPLAN. The importance of the interconnection as stabilization measure for a system highly dependent on renewable energy sources of variable output is put in evidence. The results also established that the cost structure of each scenario is mainly driven by the low marginal cost of renewable technologies along with their high investment costs. ; This work was financed by: the QREN – Operational Programme for Competitiveness Factors, the European Union – European Regional Development Fund and National Funds- Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, under Project FCOMP-01-0124-FEDER-011377 and Project ...

This work addresses tensions between Feminist Studies and the audiovisual production of feminist pornography. Despite the "anti-pornography" arguments of theorists who are in favor of censorship by the porn industry, audiovisual production of pornography that contradicts traditional, hegemonic pornography can be analyzed as one of the forms of political resistance to gender inequality. Finally, we analize the film Skin (2009) by Elin Magnusson, in order to observe the representation of female pleasure in a central point, placing the woman as a desiring subject, not objectified, as well as other elements which are disruptive for mainstream pornography. __ ARK: http://id.caicyt.gov.ar/ark:/s22504524/f52jlzpvm

The research on indicators on the state of child well-being is a growing field and one that has experienced several changes through time. Due to the growing supply of data on children, and in order to facilitate conclusions and tracking trends, researchers have been led to develop child well-being summary indexes. Several proposals have already been presented. In the present work, we critically review the most prominent summary child well-being indexes recently constructed, the Index of Child and Youth Well-Being in the United States, the Child Well-being Index for the European Union, the Microdata Child Well-Being Index, and the Deprivation Index. The examination is carried out according to the contributions and innovations the indexes have brought to the field. A critical assessment of the methods used in the construction of the indexes is made and their main limitations identified. Accordingly, some future lines of research to improve child well-being measurement through summary indexes are put forward. ; info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

As a result of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0 paradigms, based on increasing interconnectivity, the development of advanced high-performance materials for sensor and actuator applications are increasingly required. In particular, piezoelectric composites are of large scientific and technological interest from fundamental and applied point of views. Piezoelectric composites are applied in a wide range of applications as they combine the excellent properties of polymers and ceramics. The definition and properties of piezoelectric materials and composites are presented as well as the recent applications in areas such as electronics, energy harvesting, environmental sensors and biomedical applications. The outlook and future trends for piezoelectric composites are also provided. ; FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia) for financial support under the framework of Strategic Funding grants UID/FIS/04650/2020, UID/EEA/04436/2020 and UID/QUI/0686/2020; and project no. Ionic liquids (ILs) have been extensively explored and implemented in different areas, ranging from sensors and actuators to the biomedical field. The increasing attention devoted to ILs centers on their unique properties and possible combination of different cations and anions, allowing the development of materials with specific functionalities and requirements for applications. Particularly for biomedical applications, ILs have been used for biomaterials preparation, improving dissolution and processability, and have been combined with natural and synthetic polymer matrixes to develop IL-polymer hybrid materials to be employed in different fields of the biomedical area. This review focus on recent advances concerning the role of ILs in the development of biomaterials and their combination with natural and synthetic polymers for different biomedical areas, including drug delivery, cancer therapy, tissue engineering, antimicrobial and antifungal agents, and biosensing. ; The authors thank the FCT (Fundacao para a Ciencia e Tecnologia) for financial support under the framework of the Strategic Funding UID/FIS/04650/2019 and pro-jects PTDC/BTM-MAT/28237/2017, PTDC/EMD-EMD/28159/2017, and PTDC/FIS-MAC/28157/2017.
