El asma es la enfermedad respiratoria crónica más frecuente en pediatría a nivel mundial, la homeopatía es una alternativa muy valiosa para el tratamiento del asma. Dentro de los estándares de calidad establecidos por la ley Colombiana, se establece la obligatoriedad de la creación de guías de práctica clínica para todas las especialidades incluyendo la Homeopatía. En este contexto surge la necesidad de contar con guías de práctica clínica para el diagnóstico y manejo del asma en niños en consulta ambulatoria de homeopatía en pediatría. Se realizó la adaptación de guías de práctica clínica con la utilización de la herramienta ADAPTE, que incluye el análisis de guías preexistentes con la herramienta AGREE, posteriormente se realizó la adaptación de las guías a la luz de la homeopatía. Como resultado se ofrece una guía de práctica clínica que pretende brindar una directriz simple y aplicable para la toma de decisiones médicas útiles en el diagnóstico y manejo del asma en niños en consulta ambulatoria de homeopatía en pediatría. / Abstract. Asthma is the most frequent world wide chronic illness in childhood; homeopathy is a very important alternative medicine for treating asthma. According to Colombian legislation, it is obligatory to create clinical practice guidelines for every specialty including Homeopathy. Thereby it exist the need of creating Clinical practice guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of asthma in ambulatory practice of homeopathy in children. It was developed the adaptation of clinical guide lines using the ADAPTE 2.0 instrument witch includes application of AGREE instrument to preexistent guidelines, finally the guidelines were adapted to Homeopathy. As a result we developed a clinical practice guideline that pretend to help the practitioner in taking useful decisions in diagnosis and management of asthma in children in ambulatory practice of homeopathy. ; Maestría

In nature and in industrial musts, pollutants are available in a complex mixture where some specific microorganisms are able to mineralize or degrade them in more basic and less harmful compounds to the environment. Isoproturon, a phenylurea herbicide, is an environmental contaminant poorly degraded in soils and aquifers, reaching levels considered toxic by European legislation. Thus, it is urgent to discover microorganisms able to degrade or eliminate these pollutants in situations of accidental or systematic contamination, establishing the best culture conditions. Therefore, in this work it was intended to evaluate if peptone, a nitrogen source, essential for yeast growth, amends the extension of fermentative phase of a wild-type strain S. cerevisiae UE-ME3 caused by isoproturon. The results show that this wild-type yeast grown in peptone starvation conditions, in presence of 100 µM isoproturon, started early the fermentative-respiratory transition.

Lindane is an organochlorine insecticide, persistent in soils and aquifers, lipophilic, chemically and biochemically inert that accumulates along the human food chain. It is commonly used on a wide variety of crops, in warehouses, in public health to control insect-borne diseases, and as a seed treatment. Lindane is also presently used in lotions, creams, and shampoos for the control of lice and mites in humans. Several chemicals as lindane, toxic for aquatic organisms, birds and mammals have been in the news recently, since the European Union intends to ban it. Therefore it is urgent to clarify the toxicological mechanisms of this compound in eukaryotic cells. Thus the main purpose of this work was to evaluate the effects of lindane in the wine wild-type Saccharomyces cerevisiae UE-ME3. The results show that lindane inhibited cell growth of S. cerevisiae UE-ME3, causing a decrease in the biomass produced along 72 h, as well as cell viability from 24 h of assay. On the other hand, was detected an increase in the reactive oxygen species content of post-12,000 g sediment of cells exposed to 5 µM lindane and post-12000 g supernatant of cells subjected to any exposure conditions, eventually conditioned by a decline in glutathione peroxidesase and catalase T activities, which has become the detoxification of hydrogen peroxide less effective. The increase in the CAT A activity without significant changes in the alkaline phosphatase and Se-GPx activities justified, in part, the increase in ROS levels of S. cerevisiae exposed to lindane, as well as the loss of cell viability due to inadequate response of glutathione cycle or cells signaling pathways that assure lipid biosynthesis.

We consider two intrinsic sources of noise in ultra-sensitive magnetic field sensors based on MgO magnetic tunnel junctions, coming both from 25 Mg nuclear spins (I = 5/2, 10% natural abundance) and S = 1 Mg-vacancies. While nuclear spins induce noise peaked in the MHz frequency range, the vacancies noise peaks in the GHz range. We find that the nuclear noise in submicron devices has a similar magnitude than the 1/f noise, while the vacancy-induced noise dominates in the GHz range. Interestingly, the noise spectrum under a finite magnetic field gradient may provide spatial information about the spins in the MgO layer. ; This work has been financially supported by MEC-Spain (Grant Nos. Cardiac dysfunction secondary to cancer may exert a negative impact in patients' tolerance to therapeutics, quality of life, and survival. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential therapeutic effect of exercise training on the heart in the setting of cancer, after diagnosis. Thus, the molecular pathways harbored in heart mitochondria from a murine model of chemically-induced urothelial carcinoma submitted to 8-weeks of high intensity treadmill exercise were characterized using mass spectrometry-based proteomics. Data highlight the protective effects of high intensity exercise training in preventing left ventricle diastolic dysfunction, fibrosis, and structural derangement observed in tumor-bearing mice. At the mitochondrial level, exercise training counteracted the lower ability to produce ATP observed in the heart of animals with urothelial carcinoma and induced the up-regulation of fatty acid oxidation and down-regulation of the biological process "cardiac morphogenesis". DINÂMIA, Dezembro de 2007. ; Presently, in Portugal, there is an incomplete network of "Julgados de Paz" (small claims courts). The government is committed to extending the network throughout the country. The goal of extending the network is constrained by budgetary considerations. Out of those constraints a conflict between the right to justice and efficiency emerges. In this paper an approach is advanced to help manage this value conflict between justice and efficiency in setting up criteria for the extension of the network of "Julgados de Paz". ; À présent, au Portugal, le réseau des "Julgados de Paz" (Juges de Proximité) reste incomplet. Le gouvernement veut étendre le réseau à l'ensemble du territoire national. Cet objectif est limité par des contraintes budgétaires. De là découle une tension entre le droit à la justice et la poursuite de l'efficience. Dans cet exposé nous proposons une approche qui pourrait aider à répondre au besoin de gérer le conflit entre justice et efficience dans l'élaboration de critères pour l'extension du réseau de "Julgados de Paz" au territoire du Portugal. ; FCT

Abstract. A distinguishable feature of overland tsunami propagation is the incorporation of solids within the flow column, either sediment from the natural environment or remains from built infrastructure. This article describes a 2DH (two-dimensional horizontal) mathematical model particularly suited for tsunami propagation over complex and dynamic geometries, such as river and estuarine mobile beds. The discretization scheme is based on a finite-volume method using a flux-splitting technique featuring a reviewed Roe–Riemann solver, with appropriate source-term formulations to ensure full conservativeness. The model is validated with laboratory data and paleo-tsunami evidence. As a forecasting application, it is applied to a tsunami scenario in the Tagus estuary, an effort justified by the numerous catastrophic tsunamis that are known to have struck this location over the past two millennia. The obtained results show that, despite the significant differences in Lisbon's layout and morphology, a 1755-like tsunami would still inflict a devastating impact on this major city.

We demonstrate that the scattering mechanisms result from the interplay between midgap states that dominate in the vicinity of the Dirac point and short-range potentials that govern at higher energies (>8 meV). Our results highlight the potential of multilayer epitaxial graphene for probing low-energy Dirac particles and also for THz optics.

The imidazole derivative 4-(4,5-diphenyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-N,N-dimethylaniline (probe 1) formed a highly coloured and non-emissive 1:1 stoichiometry complex with Cu(II) in water-acetonitrile 1:1 (v/v) solutions. Among all the amino acids (Lys, Val, Gln, Leu, His, Thr, Trp, Gly, Phe, Arg, Ile, Met, Ser, Ala, Pro, Tyr, Gly, Asn, Asp, Glu, Cys and Hcy) and tripeptides (GSH) tested, only GSH induced the bleaching of the 1·Cu(II) solution together with a marked emission enhancement at 411 nm (excitation at 320 nm). These chromo-fluorogenic changes were ascribed to a selective GSH-induced demetallation of the 1·Cu(II) complex that resulted in a recovery of the spectroscopic features of probe 1. In addition to the remarkable selectivity of 1·Cu(II) complex toward GSH a competitive limit of detection as low as 2 μM was determined using fluorescence measurements. ; We thank the Spanish Government (MAT2015-64139-C4-1-R) and Generalitat Valenciana (PROMETEOII/2014/047).
