No Brasil, embora o sistema de gerenciamento de recursos hídricos (RH) tenha representado grande avanço, muito ainda pode ser feito no sentido de aprimorálo. A Diretiva Quadro da Água (DQA), o modelo de gerenciamento de RH europeu, reconhece que uma gestão baseada na qualidade ecológica é a maneira mais eficaz de garantir a necessária disponibilidade de água, em padrões de qualidade adequados. Neste artigo será feita uma avaliação crítica da DQA visando compreender seus princípios para avaliar as dificuldades de sua aplicação no Brasil. Observou-se que existe capacidade científica para avançar na incorporação de novos instrumentos da DQA, principalmente no estado de São Paulo, entretanto, é preciso que existam sistemas de saneamento e monitoramento adequados e especialmente decisão política e rigor na aplicação destes novos instrumentos, caso contrário a incorporação da DQA fica inviável.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of Quality of Participation Experiences (QPE) on young people's perceptions about the Young Mayor project's impact. Design/methodology/approach: This study explores statistical analyses (i.e., cluster analysis and linear regression analysis) of a survey sample (N = 961) involving young people aged between 12 and 18 years to assess differences between groups reporting different levels of QPE (i.e., low, medium and high). Findings: Participants who had participation experiences with higher developmental quality (i.e., with effective and meaningful opportunities for action and reflection) are more involved in the Young Mayor project, have more positive perceptions about it, and report more civic and political participation experiences in their communities. Research limitations/implications: The cross-sectional design of this study does not allow to make causal inferences. Therefore, a longitudinal study should be conducted to clarify the relationship between the dimensions under analysis, promoting a better understanding of the impacts of the Young Mayor project on young people's attitudes and perceptions. Practical implications: Local projects should promote participation experiences with higher developmental quality to foster their impacts on young people.

O início da vida sexual está ocorrendo cada vez mais cedo, muitas vezes com conseqüências não desejadas, como DSTs ou gravidez, tornando-se fundamental que os jovens tenham conhecimentos adequados sobre sexualidade. Este estudo teve por objetivo avaliar os efeitos de uma oficina sobre sexualidade no comportamento e conhecimento de jovens sobre o assunto. Método: 234 jovens de 15 a 20 anos, inscritos em um curso de Capacitação Profissional, que participaram de oficinas sobre sexualidade e responderam a um questionário no primeiro e no último encontro. Resultados: Metade dos adolescentes afirmou não ter iniciado vida sexual. A idade média da primeira relação sexual foi aos 14,76 anos. Os adolescentes disseram valorizar a fidelidade no relacionamento amoroso e terem dificuldade de conversar sobre o assunto com seus pais. No pós-teste, os adolescentes citaram mais métodos contraceptivos e doenças sexualmente transmissíveis que no pré-teste. O método mais citado foi a camisinha masculina. Conclusão: Os resultados do pós-teste permitem concluir que os adolescentes apresentaram mais conhecimento a respeito de métodos contraceptivos, DSTs / AIDS.

Water resources globally are affected by a complex mixture of stressors resulting from a range of drivers, including urban and agricultural land use, hydropower generation and climate change. Understanding how stressors interfere and impact upon ecological status and ecosystem services is essential for developing effective River Basin Management Plans and shaping future environmental policy. This paper details the nature of these problems for Europe's water resources and the need to find solutions at a range of spatial scales. In terms of the latter, we describe the aims and approaches of the EU-funded project MARS (Managing Aquatic ecosystems and water Resources under multiple Stress) and the conceptual and analytical framework that it is adopting to provide this knowledge, understanding and tools needed to address multiple stressors. MARS is operating at three scales: At the water body scale, the mechanistic understanding of stressor interactions and their impact upon water resources, ecological status and ecosystem services will be examined through multi-factorial experiments and the analysis of long time-series. At the river basin scale, modelling and empirical approaches will be adopted to characterise relationships between multiple stressors and ecological responses, functions, services and water resources. The effects of future land use and mitigation scenarios in 16 European river basins will be assessed. At the European, scale, large-scale spatial analysis will be carried out to identify the relationships amongst stress intensity, ecological status and service provision, with a special focus on large transboundary rivers, lakes and fish. The project will support managers and policy makers in the practical implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD), of related legislation and of the Blueprint to Safeguard Europe's Water Resources by advising the 3rd River Basin Management Planning cycle, the revision of the WFD and by developing new tools for diagnosing and predicting multiple stressors. The transferability and the clinical utility of genetic discoveries to other ethnically diverse populations are unknown. The Indian population has been under-represented in PD research. The Genetic Architecture of PD in India (GAP-India) project aims to develop one of the largest clinical/genomic bio-bank for PD in India. Specifically, GAP-India project aims to: (1) develop a pan-Indian deeply phenotyped clinical repository of Indian PD patients; (2) perform whole-genome sequencing in 500 PD samples to catalog Indian genetic variability and to develop an Indian PD map for the scientific community; (3) perform a genome-wide association study to identify novel loci for PD and (4) develop a user-friendly web-portal to disseminate results for the scientific community. Our "hub-spoke" model follows an integrative approach to develop a pan-Indian outreach to develop a comprehensive cohort for PD research in India. The alignment of standard operating procedures for recruiting patients and collecting biospecimens with international standards ensures harmonization of data/bio-specimen collection at the beginning and also ensures stringent quality control parameters for sample processing. Data sharing and protection policies follow the guidelines established by local and national authorities.We are currently in the recruitment phase targeting recruitment of 10,200 PD patients and 10,200 healthy volunteers by the end of 2020. GAP-India project after its completion will fill a critical gap that exists in PD research and will contribute a comprehensive genetic catalog of the Indian PD population to identify novel targets for PD.

To inform policy, stakeholders and management decisions on global threats to aquatic ecosystems, 195 assessors representing 120 risk assessment areas across all six inhabited continents screened 819 non-native species from 15 groups of aquatic organisms (freshwater, brackish, marine plants and animals) using the Aquatic Species Invasiveness Screening Kit. This multi-lingual decision-support tool for the risk screening of aquatic organisms provides assessors with risk scores for a species under current and future climate change conditions that, following a statistically based calibration, permits the accurate classification of species into high-, medium-and low-risk categories under current and predicted climate conditions. The 1730 screenings undertaken encompassed wide geographical areas (regions, political entities, parts thereof, water bodies, river basins, lake drainage basins, and marine regions), which permitted thresholds to be identified for almost all aquatic organismal groups screened as well as for tropical, temperate and continental climate classes, and for tropical and temperate marine ecoregions. In total, 33 species were identified as posing a 'very high risk' of being or becoming invasive, and the scores of several of these species under current climate increased under future climate conditions, primarily due to their wide thermal tolerances. The risk thresholds determined for taxonomic groups and climate zones provide a basis against which area-specific or climate-based calibrated thresholds may be interpreted. In turn, the risk rankings help decision-makers identify which species require an immediate 'rapid' management action (e.g. eradication, control) to avoid or mitigate adverse impacts, which require a full risk assessment, and which are to be restricted or banned ...
