The book covers the topic of the role of public sector in the economic and territorial development across several dimensions of spatial planning, e.g. theoretical-methodological (planning cultures, leadership), executive (regional policies, services of general interest), sectoral (energy, tourism, air-quality) or social (social innovation, preservation of cultural heritage). The book delivers up-to date knowledge build on interactions between representatives of different stakeholders of economic and territorial development with the research represented by renowned experts and academicians. Nach den bereits vorliegenden Handbüchern der Planungsbegriffe für die Länder Polen, Slowakische und Tschechische Republik und der Schweiz wird mit diesem Band ein weiterer Grenzraum behandelt, um zum gegenseitigen Verständnis über die politischen, rechtlichen, soziokulturellen und ökonomischen Verhältnisse des jeweils anderen Partners beizutragen. Dies gilt vor allem auch für die Raumplanung , die in den einzelnen Staaten rechtlich, organisatorisch und terminologisch unterschiedlich ausgestaltet ist. Die Bedeutung grenzüberschreitender raumplanerischer Zusammenarbeit nimmt heute auf allen Ebenen zu. Neben einführenden Teilen zum Staats- und Verwaltungsaufbau sowie zum Planungssystem in den drei Ländern werden die Erläuterungen der Planungsbegriffe durch ausgewählte Beispiele von Programmen und Plänen der verschiedenen Planungsebenen aus Österreich, der Slowakei und Tschechien veranschaulicht.
