Examining the politics and political culture of provincial Ireland, this book compares two distinct localities that provide differing perspectives on how politics and power manifested themselves
The Dulles idea that nonalignment in the Cold War is immoral voiced the view that the world must choose between the pure white of our crusade & the total evil of Soviet Communism. This absolutist doctrine failed to convince any nonaligned people & had to be abandoned. However, its propagation & failure raised the issue of the morality of our containment policy. The morality of the following issues is discussed: (1) the depletion of our economy by nearly a trillion dollars of cold-war military expenditures; (2) the proscription of all revolutions in the world, lest they turn communist, while allying ourselves with soc'ly oppressive & obsolete groups; (3) ignoring of the mounting evidence of soc evolution & achievement in communist lands, (4) violation of both the UN & Org of Amer States charters & internat'l law, & (5) forcing corrupt gov's on the people of South Vietnam to maintain ourselves in the trap of involvement around China's frontiers.
