El léxico tiene una alta capacidad persuasiva. Políticos y comunicadores cuidan la selección léxica, conscientes de su funcionalidad como mecanismo argumentativo. La valoración, expresada generalmente a través de adjetivos, es un procedimiento persuasivo altamente rentable para expresar la posición ideológica del hablante y su orientación. En los textos políticos de la etapa franquista, recogidos en los medios de comunicación de la época (ABC, Hoja del lunes, por ejemplo) la posición del grupo dominante se muestra en una valoración intensificada que sirve para distinguir la posición que se legitima o se considera correcta de aquella que se califica como negativa o propia del exogrupo. A veces, se utiliza estratégicamente para alabar la imagen del otro y conseguir de este modo persuadirlo para que adopte determinada postura; otras, va ligada claramente a la imposición.Esta estrategia valorativa se encuentra en cualquier texto político y/o mediático, también, por supuesto, en los actuales. En los nuevos partidos que aparecen en el panorama político español del s. XXI, ya sea por su deseo de instalar su propuesta dentro de un ámbito dominado por el bipartidismo, se recurre de manera frecuente a esta "hipervaloración" o intensificación, ligada claramente a la emoción. En el presente artículo, analizaremos la tendencia a utilizar estos elementos y evaluaremos su función para introducir la orientación ideológica, la fuerza argumentativa o para enmarcar lo dicho en un ámbitoclaramente emotivo, lo que nos lleva a plantearnos si no estamos cayendo en una falacia, en convencer no con la razón, sino a través de los sentimientos. O si sencillamente no argumentamos, sino que persuadimos. La comparación entre estas dos épocas del discurso político español nos proporcionará conclusiones muy interesantes para el conocimiento de la valoración como mecanismo expresivo y su uso estratégico en la ideología. ; The lexicon has a high persuasive capacity. Politicians and communicators pay attention to the lexical selection, conscious of its functionality as an argumentative mechanism. Valuation, usually expressed through adjectives, is a highly profitable persuasive procedure to express the speaker's ideological position and orientation. In the political texts of the Franco era, collected in the media of the time (ABC, Hoja del lunes, for example) the position of the dominant group is shown in an intensified assessment that serves to distinguish the position that is legitimized or considered correct of that which is qualified as negative or proper to the exogroup. Sometimes, it is used strategically to praise the image of the other and in this way persuade him to adopt a certain position; others, it is clearly linked to the imposition.This valuation strategy is found in any political and/or media text, also, of course, in the current ones. In the new parties that appear in the Spanish political panorama of the 21stcentury, either because of their desire to install their proposal within an area dominated by bipartisanship, this "hypervaluation" or intensification is frequently used, clearly linked to emotion. In this article, we will analyze the tendency to use these elements, and we will evaluate their function to introduce ideological orientation, argumentative force, or to frame what is said in a clearly emotive field, which leads usto consider if we are not falling into a fallacy, convincing not with reason, but through feelings. Or if we simply do not argue, but persuade.The comparison between these two epochs of Spanish political discourse will provide us with very interesting conclusions for the knowledge of valuation as an expressive mechanism, and its strategic use in ideology.

Lo llamado políticamente correcto constituye la manifestación de una ideología impuesta por la sociedad. Crea una imagen de ella que se impone en el discurso mediático y político, aunque no trasciende al comportamiento. Por tanto, en el fondo no muestra la ideología real del grupo, sino una imagen ficticia y positiva, en una clara muestra de hipocresía. En este artículo analizamos textos del discurso público, político y mediático, desde una metodología de Análisis del discurso y revisamos el concepto de imagen que está en la base de la teoría de la cortesía verbal ; What is "politically correct", so called, constitutes the manifestation of an ideology which society enforces. It gives rise to an image of that same society within the discourses of media and politics, although never affecting behaviour as such. Thus, at bottom it does not bring to the fore the group's real ideology, but rather an image which is fictitious and positive in a clear show of hypocrisy. From the perspective of the tenets of Discourse Analysis, in this article texts are explored that belong to public, political and media-based discourses, while a re-examination is made of the concept of image that represents the basis of the theory of verbal politeness.

Question time is an unique opportunity for the members of Parlia- ment to receive a direct answer from the government. Several factors make this discourse special: time limit, fixed structure and the fact that the question sel- dom acts as an information request. Speech acts vary according to the speaker and interactive circumstances. They point to accusation and criticism. On the other hand, the government uses evasion as a defense device. ; Las preguntas orales son el único momento en el que el gobierno responde directamente a los miembros de la Cámara. Constituyen un tipo de discurso especial por su limitación de tiempo, su estructura fija, y porque en él la pregunta no siempre actúa como un requerimiento de información. El acto de habla realizado varía según el hablante y las circunstancias interactivas y apunta siempre a la acusación y la crítica. Por su parte, el gobierno recurre a la evasión a veces como modo de defensa.

La expresión de la subjetividad es utilizada en la argumentación y en la modulación cortés o descortés de un mensaje. El hablante recurre a ella: a) como mecanismo de refuerzo o atenuación de la (des)cortesía, b) como argumento falaz (argumentum ad hominem, ad baculum, ad misericordiam), c) como medio de asegurar la afiliación con el interlocutor. Se utiliza, pues, como calificador en la argumentación, o como un tipo de argumentos que se mueve en el plano de los sentimientos para conseguir un mayor efecto en el receptor. Puede emplearlo el hablante para acercarse cortésmente al interlocutor, o para rechazarlo de forma tajante. En este último caso el discurso es descortés y la argumentación falaz. Pero, en contra de lo esperado, es altamente rentable. Por ello es empleada en diferentes formatos textuales. En este trabajo nos acercamos a dos tipos discursivos altamente persuasivos, el político y el publicitario, que en su búsqueda de la eficacia comunicativa, acuden de forma recurrente a la emoción como estrategia. El marco metodológico en el que nos movemos es el de una pragmalingüística integral donde convergen la teoría de la enunciación, la teoría de la argumentación y la cortesía verbal. ; Subjectivity is used in argumentation and (im)politeness. It is very effective in the persuasion: a) as a mechanism of reinforcement or attenuation of the (im)politeness, b) as a fallacious argument (argumentum ad hominem, ad baculum, ad misericordiam), c) as a means of ensuring the affiliation with the partner. It is used, therefore, as a qualifier of the argument, or as a kind of arguments that use emotions to achieve a greater effect on the receiver. The speaker does it in order to be polite with his interlocutor, or to reject it in a blunt way. In the latter case the discourse is impolite and the argument, a fallacy. But, contrary to expectations, it is highly profitable in different textual formats. In this work we analyse two highly persuasive discursive types, politics or advertising, attending recurrently the emotion as a strategy in their search for efficient communication. The methodological framework in which we operate is a comprehensive pragmalinguistics where converge enunciation theory, theory of argumentation or verbal politeness.

Vamos con todo is a mixed-genre entertainment programme transmitted in Ecuador on a national television channel. The segment of the programme that we examine in this paper focuses on gossip and events surrounding local/national celebrities. Talk as entertainment is central to this segment which is structured around a series of 'news' stories announced by the presenters and mostly conveyed through (pre-recorded) interviews. Extracts of these interviews are ingeniously presented to create a sense of confrontation between the celebrities concerned. Each news story is then followed-up by informal 'discussions' among the show's 5-6 presenters who take on the role of panellists. While Vamos con todo incorporates various genres, the running thread throughout the programme is the creation of scandal and the instigation of confrontation. What is of particular interest, however, is that no sooner the scandalous stories are presented, the programme presenters attempt to defuse the scandal and controversy that they contributed to creating. The programme thus results in what viewers familiar with the genre of confrontational talk shows in Spain, for example, may regard as an emasculated equivalent. In this paper we explore linguistic and other mechanisms through which confrontation and scandal are first created and then defused in Vamos con todo. We consider the situational, cultural and socio-political context of the programme as possibly playing a part in this disjointedness. The study draws on the literature on television discourse, talk shows and (im)politeness in the media.

This paper analyses Spanish television interviews and presents a contrast between the impolite argumentative strategies employed by the interviewer to attack the image of the interviewee in interviews with politicians and celebrities. It aims to demonstrate how the topic addressed and the subtype of interview influence the strategies employed and degree of impoliteness shown by the interviewer. The analysis of our corpus has shown that the current television interview differs from the traditional format of this genre in a number of respects. Impoliteness is used in Spanish interviews in order to attract the audience and to build the journalist"s face in political interviews as participants in ideological confrontation. Nevertheless, the detailed study of the impoliteness strategies employed by the interviewer has shown that the modification of features largely depends on the subtype examined. We observed in television celebrity interviews a wider range of strategies of verbal impoliteness, which are absent from political interviews. This explains why a variationist perspective has been adopted in the analysis of verbal impoliteness
