This doctoral dissertation by compendium of publications critically reassesses Letters Written During a Short Residence in Spain and Portugal by looking at the inception of Robert Southeys deeply ambiguous cultural cosmopolitanismand how his first extended, published prose enterprise inaugurated a series of interests that were to permeate his later writings. Structured as a series of letters written as he travelled across the Iberian Peninsula between December 1795 and May 1796, Southey published the richly detailed account of his journey early in 1797. Letters engaged with the tradition of English travelogues, while borrowing traits from other genres such as the journal, translation, literary criticism, history, and the picturesque guidebook. On his way, Southey commented on every aspect of Spanish and Portuguese society, from local food and wine, bizarre customs, literature and theatregoing, to Iberian politics and religion. The four publications this dissertation is comprised of yield new insights into two crucial aspects of Southeys writing career traditionally understudied by Romantic scholarship. Firstly, they explore how Southey championed the interconnectedness between tourism, walking, and landscape in his role as a successful travel writer. Secondly, they explore the inception and development of a line of work that would translate in Southey becoming one of the leading (Luso-)Hispanists in Georgian England. The methodology of research is governed, in the first place, by the resurgence in recent decades of scholarly interest in the genre of Romantic travel writing. In this respect, special emphasis has been given to how the late eighteenth century saw the transformation of walking from an unwelcome fact of life to an enriching mode of travel, and how this impacted travel writing. The theoretical model of the study further draws on the burgeoning research field of the connections between English and Iberian letters in Romantic England. En la siguiente investigación se desarrolló un análisis crítico del discurso gubernamental del primer periodo presidencial de Álvaro Uribe Vélez (2002-2006), poniendo énfasis en la producción y reproducción del miedo a la muerte (Tanato-fobia) como mecanismo político. El análisis que se presenta a continuación es un esfuerzo por comprender el miedo a la muerte en el discurso gubernamental, por ello, a lo largo del presente estudio, el lector encontrará reflexiones referidas a su producción y reproducción política. En las siguientes páginas el lector se encontrara con una aproximación cualitativa de lo que fue el programa de gobierno de Álvaro Uribe, cuya principal característica recayó en el poder sobre la muerte. ; In the following research, a critical analysis of the governmental discourse of Álvaro Uribe Vélez's first presidential term (2002-2006) was developed, emphasizing the production and reproduction of the fear of death (Thanato-phobia) as a political mechanism. The analysis that follows is an effort to understand the fear of death in the governmental discourse, therefore, throughout the present study, the reader will find reflections on their production and political reproduction. In the following pages the reader will find a qualitative approximation of what Álvaro Uribe's government program was, whose main characteristic was power over death.

In the early twenty-first century, key public health issues and challenges have taken centre stage on the global scene, and health has been placed at the heart of our collective aspirations for human development and well-being. But significant debate exists not only about the causes, but also about the possible solutions for nearly all of the most important global health challenges. Competing visions of the values and perspectives that should underlie global health policies have emerged, ranging from an emphasis on cost eff ectiveness and resource constraints on one extreme, to new calls for health and human rights, and renewed calls for health and social justice on the other. The role of different intergovernmental agencies, bilateral or unilateral donors, public or private institutions and initiatives, has increasingly been called into question, whilst the spread of neoliberal policies and programmes, and existing international trade regimes and intellectual property rights, are deeply implicated in relation to global health responses. Las Industrias Culturales Creativas (ICC) se caracteriza por tener un mercado laboral segmentado y precario debido, principalmente, a las formas emergentes de contratación, como el trabajo freelance. Estos rasgos, según los antecedentes teóricos, se evidencian como parte de su habitus, que las presentan como un tipo de industria precaria, pero elitista por razones técnicas, socioeconómicas y de género. Al analizar este sector en México por medio de la Encuesta Nacional de Ocupación y Empleo (ENOE), se encontró que tiene un carácter cualificado derivado del nivel educativo de sus trabajadores, la mayoría cuenta con educación superior. Además, cabe resaltar, el carácter flexible de las ICC en la empleabilidad de profesionales, la mayoría de ellos tienen estudios diferentes al campo disciplinar de las artes, diseño y arquitectura. Por tanto, es principalmente un sector precario altamente cualificado. Los trabajadores reciben bajos salarios, pero más de la mitad de ellos cuentan con educación superior.

Rhynchospora fusca (L.) W.T. Aiton is a Cyperaceae that lives in constantly wet zones in acid mires, whose European distribution reaches its southernmost limit in the Spanish Cantabrian corniche. It is a characteristic plant of Habitat 7150 "Depressions on peat substrates of the Rhynchosporion" in Annex I of the EU Habitats Directive of the European Union, and also listed in the Catalogue of Threatened Species of the Basque Autonomous Community under the "Endangered" category since an only locality within the Izki Natural Park is known, in the Galbaniturri-1 mire. Given the vulnerability of this only Basque population, and aiming to improve its conservation status, a reinforcement experience was set in 2011 within LIFE+ PRO-IZKI project. We describe the main results, including the plantation at five new points in the same mire (2013 and 2015), and the monitoring for survival, flowering and fruiting for 3 consecutive reproductive periods from 2014 to 2016. The plants used for the reinforcement were vegetatively generated from plants collected in the wild. The average survival rate for the first plants planted in 2013 was very low (28%), due to the choice of planting before the winter; a second plantation in spring 2015 obtained a much higher survival rate (79%). Plant growth by rhizome renewals has been increasing year after year in almost all plots. Flowering occurred for the first time in 2016 in 6 of the 9 plots, showing heterogeneous numbers among them. Seed production has been estimated for 4 of the 6 flowering plots, also showing considerable differences. As a whole, the initial phase of reinforcement for this species is considered successful, but a final evaluation can only be made on a long-term basis. ; Rhynchospora fusca (L.) W.T. Aiton es una ciperácea que vive en áreas constantemente húmedas en ciertos humedales higroturbosos, cuyo límite sur de distribución europea es la Cornisa Cantábrica española. Es una planta característica del Hábitat 7150 "Depresiones sobre sustratos turbosos del Rhynchosporion" incluida en el Anexo I de la UE Directiva Hábitats, y también incluida en el Catálogo de Especies Amenazadas de la Comunidad Autónoma Vasca, dentro de la categoría "En Peligro de Extinción" ya que sólo se conoce una única localidad dentro del Parque Natural de Izki, en el trampal de Galbaniturri-1. Dada la vulnerabilidad de esta única población vasca y al objeto de mejorar su estado de conservación, se inició una experiencia de reforzamiento en 2011 dentro del proyecto europeo LIFE+PROIZKI. Se describen sus principales resultados, incluyendo la plantación en cinco nuevos puntos (2013 y 2015), y el seguimiento establecido para determinar la supervivencia, floración y fructificación durante 3 periodos de reproducción consecutivos, desde 2014 a 2016. La planta para este reforzamiento fue producida a partir de material vegetativo recolectado en la población original. La tasa de supervivencia media en el primer ensayo en 2013 fue muy baja (28%), debido a haber hecho la plantación antes del invierno; la segunda plantación en la primavera de 2015 obtuvo una tasa mucho mayor (79%). El crecimiento a través de renuevos de rizoma ha ido incrementándose año tras año en casi todos los plots. La primera floración se dio en 2016, en 6 de los 9 plots, mostrando cifras heterogéneas entre ellos. La producción de semillas se ha estimado para 4 de los 6 plots que habían florecido, mostrando nuevamente diferencias considerables. En general, la fase inicial del reforzamiento de esta especie se considera exitosa, pero una evaluación final sólo podrá hacerse a largo plazo.
