From the Grenada war to the battle of Lepanto: progress from a modern army ; De la guerra de Granada a la batalla de Lepanto: progresos de una armada moderna
The famous Chrononist Luis Cabrera de Córdoba, in his story of King Prudente, told us that Felipe II was entertaining during the rest hours 'with traces of military factories and machines'. It is true that the Monarca felt a great deal of enthusiasm for all the military, even though it had been considered to leave these topics to its advisors' experts. Thanks to this dedication, the Spanish Navy became a modern navy able to provide quick solutions to concrete problems. In our recent work on the Spanish Navy, we sufficiently outlined this advantageous slope of the Monarca; we said that later on new aspects would emerge that would accentuate the role of the Navy in the service of the Crown. One of the greatest vicisitudes to overcome the Monarca was the war in Granada, this barely known period of two years (1569-1570) of struggling without rest, which undoubtedly marked an important stage in the army of the Monarchy. ; Peer reviewed ; The famous Chrononist Luis Cabrera de Córdoba, in his story of King Prudente, told us that Felipe II was entertaining during the rest hours 'with traces of military factories and machines'.
; [EN] It is known that during the xnr, xrv and xv centuries the chroniclers were endeavouring to write the Crónica o Historia General de España. Their quest was to bring about political integration focusing not on a better fume but aiming to build on the past with the idea that imitating that past would improve the present situation. A Goticist and Castilianist background was available as a basis upon which to set up the Pauline view of power as deriving from God (absolutism), and the Aristotelian philosophy of the Monarchy being constrained by the kingdom through the parliament (constitutionalism).
[EN] This article intends to underline a political and religious fact, apparently marginal, that took place during the Hispanic federation with Venice and the Holy League from 1571 to 1573. There was an approximation of the orthodox Greeks toward the Catholics in arder to find sorne help in their Ottoman liberation struggle, which supposed to comply one of the Pius V's objectives. A similar situation had happened a hundred years befare during the pontificate of Eugene IV, the union of the Latin Church with the various eastern Churches. The opposition to be united will be not so much in the Greeks nor the Pope but in the intransigent Philip 11. We will mainly use documents from the General Archive of Simancas.

; Peer reviewed
