Contribuciones de la dialéctica a la organización del conocimiento ; Contributions of dialectics to knowledge organization
In: Scire.
; Knowledge organization, and its nurturing scientific disciplines, have been built on objectivism, a perspective rooted in positivism on which the Belgian founding fathers of Information Science developed their theories, and which has been continued through functionalism, the philosophical basement that holds together the technicist paradigm from which the problems of its domain are nowadays usually described or solved. However, operating such complex symbolic and discursive materials as knowledge, experience or memory —especially through their footprints and records (exo-memory) in the massive digital networks— requires studies carried out from sensible ethical, cultural and political positions. Dialectical exploration does not only provides essential clues to help us to understand some of the most decisive knowledge organization operations as highly mediated hermeneutics, but also provides us with the tools to ensure pluralism and democracy in the subjects and discourses that deserve it. The digital space offers new opportunities for diversity, but also an unprecedented threat of unification of cultures, democratic positions and dissent. Installing a dialectical consciousness into the core of knowledge organization and memory research and practice, as claimed by this article, will contribute to the protection and promotion of basic human rights through the regulated dialogue among the different and legitimate positions.

Cientificamente favelados : uma visão crítica do conhecimento a partir da epistemografia ; Scientifically marginalized: a critical view of knowledge from epistemology
In: TransInformação, 18 (2), 103-112.
A Epistemografia intervêm, portanto, para acolher o conhecimento excluído, devolvendo-lhe a legitimidade negada pelos processos convencionais de reconhecimento e ordenação ; Analysis of the knowledge, and its organization, using interactive epistemography as opposed to epistemology. The latter, which has been traditionally tied with methodical and elitist knowledge, actually ignores great part of the socially produced knowledge, confining it to marginalized knowledge. When considering instead, the interactive epistemography, the need to incorporate to knowledge and to its organization ethical, cultural questions and politics is firstly emphasized. Consequently the objective of the epistemography is to be present in knowledge environments which are purposedly excluded from contemporaneous processes of registration and flow, in order to enable its incorporation to digital networks, through which, dominant knowledge pass. Thus, it considers the creation of tools to declassify knowledge, whether already classified, or being classified. Such declassification assumes a reinstating of contradiction, as an after-epistemologic resource, and the substitution of dominant logic for paraconsistent logic. Therefore, epistemography intervenes in order to welcome excluded knowledge, returning the legitimacy which has been denied by conventional processes of recognition and ordinance.

Critical Organization of Knowledge in Mass Media Information Systems
In: Knowl. Org, 41 (3), 205-216.
This paper studies knowledge organization (KO) in media archives, focusing on the presence of subjectivity in the core tasks of mass media knowledge organizers (MKOS) dealing with press, radio and TV records, such as classification, representation, and any other process related to content analysis and organization in news information systems. Far from rejecting subjectivity and ideological bias in these operations - since they coparticipate in the media construction of reality—the authors consider MKOS to be genuine ideological and cultural mediators with the right and social responsibility to explicitly state the results of their "objectifiable" work (obtained through KO protocols and procedures determined by the media/company, classifications, thesauri, ontologies, etc.) and differentiate them from those of their political, ideological, cultural and, in sum, subjective stances. In order to achieve this, we propose the application of critical operators that should be followed by technical, collaborative and even technological actions geared to investing information systems with the capacity to consider those stances and allowing users to distinguish them. In short, it is the theoretical recognition of the subjective and biased presence of media knowledge organization operators in a job that is usually considered neutral, banal and even objective, and the initial development of tools for critical, self-critical, technical, and technological training keyed to its practical solution. This paper outlines the lines of work of a broader research study on the critical function of KO in the field of global media memory.
