George David Remington Interview, 1975
George Remington discusses his career as a newspaper editor and the technological and personnel changes at the Independent Record. Remington explains how in 1959 the Anaconda Mining Company sold the Independent Record to Lee Newspapers, which allowed for more credible news coverage. He talks about the changes in printing technology, the surge of computer-based systems, and how the Independent Record was replacing outdated machinery. He discusses his work covering the Montana legislature and the passing of the new Montana constitution in 1972. Remington details the improvements to the paper, such as a women's section and a weekend issue. He talks about significance of Helena's cultural establishments, citing the Helena Symphony and the Archie Bray Foundation as examples. Remington concludes by explaining how the newspaper has improved and his hopes that it will continue to improve with the use of modern technology. ; https://scholarworks.umt.edu/leenewspapersmontana_oralhistory/1002/thumbnail.jpg
