Purpose– Relying on relational demography and person-organization fit perspectives, the purpose of this paper is to explore the interactive effect of demographic dissimilarity and value congruence on workplace attachment outcomes – affective and normative organizational commitment and turnover intentions. Based on optimal distinctiveness theory, asymmetrical effects across gender and race/ethnicity are also examined.Design/methodology/approach– A diverse sample of 278 restaurant workers in 30 different work units is used to test the hypotheses using hierarchical OLS regression.Findings– The results partially support the idea that perceived and objective value congruence moderate the relationship of race/ethnic and gender dissimilarity on workplace attachment. Tests for asymmetrical demographic group effects showed that value congruence had a stronger moderating effect for whites than for people of color, and for men than for women.Research limitations/implications– The results suggest that value congruence can ameliorate the adverse diversity effects on workplace attachment, but that a complete substitution effect may not be present. Women and minorities may still be sensitive to demographic representation even when their value congruence is high. This implies that a simultaneous pursuit of fit and diversity is an adequate diversity management strategy to stimulate the inclusion and workplace attachment of all social groups.Originality/value– This study joins a limited number of studies addressing the interaction of value congruence and demographic dissimilarity, and presents empirical evidence from a work setting. Also, this is the first study to show gender and race/ethnic differences in this interaction.

This article examines the problems of planning under conditions of uncertainty. Planning is always necessary, but exercise can be done in many differentways. Here the difference between planning based on class probability and planning based on case probability is established, and it is shown so that the latter prevails, it is inadequate and fails. An example of its limitations is the mishandling of the crisis caused by COVID-19. It is proposed, then, to turn our gaze towards class probability, which is necessary and sufficient to raise the planning options adequately. Although this exercise is relevant, planning requires an additional step, that of collective choice, and it is then inescapable to ask about the ethical dimension. The size of the state is resolved in the political arena, and in democratic societies it must be compatible with the exercise of freedom. In this study, we examine the way through which France is facing some traumatic pasts during the presidential term of Nicolas Sarkozy (2007-2012), and particularly the historiographical debates, public controversies and social demands which memory wars conceal on two this topics: the appropriation of the memory of the young communist Guy Môquet, assassinated by the Nazis during the Second World War, and his electoral instrumentalization of the Algerian war. The Fifth Republic has developed an institutional policy based upon the promulgation of a series of memory laws which led to numerous reservations within the academic community. This process, and above all the political use of history carried out by Sarkozy, forms the central core in this work, tributary of methods of the so-called history of the present.

Surveys a region which is fast‐growing, interesting and diverse from a marketing viewpoint. Warns of pitfalls in Latin American research because of the region's complexity and its difference from developed countries, and outlines the basis of the current research in terms of subjectivity (self) and sociality (culture). Shows the contrasting demographic statistics for various Latin American countries. Discusses the influences on youth attitudes, beliefs and behaviour: identity and groups, the family (still the cornerstone of Latin American society), marriage and divorce, the increasing rate of change, the increasing importance of the mass media, and the growth in consumption.

(Verlagstext)

Purpose
This study aims to theoretically explore the relationship between potential antecedents of business model innovation (BMI) in multinational enterprises (MNEs) and the paths through which BMI unfolds in such contexts. This study theorizes how multiculturalism in top management teams (TMTs) influences team-level cultural intelligence (CQ), which enhances firm strategic agility and helps develop BMI in MNEs.
Design/methodology/approach
This study's cross-level theoretical framework describes the mediating role of CQ of TMTs in the relationship between team multiculturalism and strategic agility, which subsequently influences BMI. This study discusses contributions, limitations and future directions.
Findings
MNEs' capability of developing and recombining disruptive knowledge from globally dispersed sources and integrating them to innovate is subject to the knowledge-sourcing paradox. Despite the importance of intra-member diversity in the form of multicultural individuals in multicultural teams, inter-member diversity is more prominent in the literature. Regardless, the applicability of a comprehensive conceptualization of diversity in multicultural teams to BMI has yet to be examined. This study's theoretical model links multiculturalism in TMTs with BMI in MNEs through a cross-level framework.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the International Business literature by proposing a novel conceptualization of team multiculturalism and leverage theoretical underpinnings of the Dynamic Managerial Capabilities perspective to develop a cross-level model of factors influencing BMI in MNEs.
