Psychosociale problemen is een helder en beknopt overzicht van de meest voorkomende psychosociale problemen bij kinderen en jeugdigen - problemen die niet alleen voor de betrokken jeugdigen heel vervelend kunnen zijn maar ook voor hun directe omgeving.Ieder hoofdstuk van Psychosociale problemen is volgens een vast stramien opgezet. De auteurs, allen autoriteit op hun vakgebied, typeren het psychosociale probleem aan de hand van een praktijkvoorbeeld, beschrijven de theoretische achtergronden en mogelijke oorzaken ervan, de diagnostiek, de mogelijkheden voor behandeling, de prognose en preventie. Elk hoofdstuk wordt afgesloten met een samenvatting en een literatuuroverzicht. In dit deel komen - in volgorde van ernst - de volgende psychosociale problemen aan de orde: blozen, verlegenheid, eenzaamheid, faalangst, (pathologisch) liegen, jaloezie en afgunst. De kernvraag bij ieder hoofdstuk is waar de grens ligt tussen normaal en abnormaal. Daarom wordt er in Psychosociale problemen veel aandacht besteed aan de diagnostiek.Psychosociale problemen is het tweede deel in de reeks Kinderen en Adolescenten. Deze reeks geeft een vrijwel volledig overzicht van de problemen en risicosituaties die zich bij de deze leeftijdsgroep kunnen voordoen. Per deel wordt een bondige en toegankelijke beschrijving gegeven van het onderwerp, gevolgd door de meest actuele kijk op de diagnostische en behandelingsmogelijkheden.
