"In diesem Beitrag wird der sogenannte 'Fähigkeitenansatz', der seit einiger Zeit in der Armutsforschung Beachtung findet, näher beleuchtet. Er wird gegenüber anderen Konzepten der Sozialethik abgegrenzt und vor allem anhand der Arbeiten der beiden führenden TheoretikerInnen - Amartya Sen und Martha Nussbaum - erörtert. Dabei zeigt sich, dass einige Punkte - in erster Linie solche, die mit Wertfragen zu tun haben -, innerhalb des Fähigkeitenansatzes umstritten sind, was sich in einer erheblichen internen Pluralität niederschlägt. Das wiederum hat zur Folge, dass der Fähigkeitenansatz mit verschiedenen Armutsbegriffen vereinbar ist und keine endgültigen Richtlinien zur Erforschung von Armut vorgibt. Trotz dieser Unbestimmtheit des Ansatzes lässt sich zeigen, dass einige seiner zentralen Einsichten gewinnbringend auf Fragestellungen der Armutsforschung angewendet werden können." (Autorenreferat)

This book addresses the endangerment of children's bodies in affluent societies. Bodily integrity is an important part of a child's physical and mental well-being, but it can also be violated through various threats during childhood; not only affecting physical health but also causing mental damage and leading to distortions in the development of the self. The authors give an account of three areas, which present different serious dangers: (1) body and eating, (2) body and sexuality, and (3) body and violence. Through an in-depth examination of the available theoretical and empirical knowledge, as well as a thorough ethical analysis, the central injustices in the mentioned areas are identified and the agents with responsibilities towards children displayed. The authors conclude by providing invaluable insight into the necessity of an ethical basis for policies to safeguard children and their bodies

This book is open access under a CCBY license. This book investigates child poverty from a philosophical perspective. It identifies the injustices of child poverty, relates them to the well-being of children, and discusses who has a moral responsibility to secure social justice for children. .

In diesem Beitrag wollen wir aus einer ethischen Perspektive dafür argumentieren, dass es moralisch verwerflich ist, Kinder mit Körperstrafen jeglicher Form zu züchtigen, was ein starker Grund dafür ist, sie in allen Staaten auch rechtlich zu verbieten. Unsere ethische Argumentation fußt also nicht schon selbst auf rechtlichen Vorgaben oder Traditionen in bestimmten Staaten wie Deutschland oder Österreich, die die Körperstrafe verboten haben, sondern ist eine Argumentationsebene tiefer angesiedelt und kann in diesem Sinne auch eine außerlegistische Begründung für legistische Verbote abgeben. Wir werden vier Argumente vorbringen, die unsere Konklusion untermauern. Drei dieser Argumente beziehen sich spezifisch auf moralische Ansprüche von Kindern, ein Argument bezieht sich auf gesellschaftliche Folgen der Körperstrafe (hier geht es also vor allem um unerwünschte Nebeneffekte). Körperstrafen verletzen die moralischen Ansprüche von Kindern auf (a) die Unversehrtheit ihrer körperlichen Integrität, (b) auf Wohlergehen und Wohlentwickeln und (c) darauf, nicht erniedrigt zu werden. Körperstrafen schaffen (d) ein Klima der Gewalt in einer Gesellschaft, welches für alle Gesellschaftsmitglieder - Kinder wie Erwachsene - moralisch schlecht ist.

Abstract
The capability approach, which is closely connected to the works of Amartya Sen and Martha Nussbaum, is one possible theoretical framework that could be used to answer the question as to why poverty is a problem from a moral point of view. In this paper we will focus on the normative philosophical capability approach rather than the social scientific and descriptive perspective. We will show that the approach characterizes poverty mainly as a limitation of freedom and that it is precisely this aspect, from its point of view, that makes poverty morally significant. This insight shifts the discussion away from questions regarding specific capabilities or lists of them-questions treated extensively in the literature-to the more general level of what constitutes the normative core of the capability approach. But as we will also discuss and argue, the role of freedom alone does not give us a complete picture of poverty but only presents us with one aspect relevant to evaluating it. A further aspect which we consider has not been adequately recognized and taken into account by most capability theorists is the experience of disrespect and humiliation, or to put it differently, a lack of recognition.

This volume contributes to the ongoing interdisciplinary controversies about the moral, legal and political status of children and childhood. It comprises essays by scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds on diverse theoretical problems and public policy controversies that bear upon different facets of the life of children in contemporary liberal democracies. The book is divided into three major parts that are each organized around a common general theme. The firstpart ('Children and Childhood: Autonomy, Well-Being and Paternalism') focusses on key concepts of an ethics of childhood. Part two('Justice for Children') contains chapters that are concerned with the topics of justice for children and justice during childhood. The thirdpart ('The Politics of Childhood') deals with issues that concern the importance of `childhood´ as a historically contingent political category and its relevance for the justification and practical design of political processes and institutions that affect children and families.
