Following a long tradition of archaeological research, rescue archaeology has enormously increased the number of excavations in the last fifteen years. The quality of the data now available, particularly with regard to rural settlement, is excellent. This study investigates animal husbandry and food production. On the one hand, it uses zooarchaeological data to answer broader economic questions and to trace economic developments in a Roman frontier province. Abstract
The anglicisation of Scottish writing, a development in which the features of the previously high-status Scots language variety became marginalised and proscribed in favour of prestige Standard English variants, is typically dated by scholars to the sixteenth through eighteenth century. The effect of anglicisation on upper- and middle-class Scottish authors' written language has been attested in numerous studies; however, how the metalinguistic ideologies of the time affected the language of the Scottish lower classes has long remained underinvestigated. This study makes use of the recent publication of a corpus of lower-class Scottish writing from the nineteenth century – the Corpus of Scottish Pauper Petitions – to investigate the effect of prescriptivism on lower-class Scottish writing as documented in nineteenth-century pauper petitions. The materials are placed side-by-side with the writings of upper- and middle-class Scottish people during this period, taken from the Corpus of Modern Scottish Writing. This study, which investigates both overt and covert Scotticisms by drawing respectively on usage guides by contemporaneous prescriptivists and works by modern linguists, takes a 'from below' approach to Scotland's linguistic history and represents a new step in our understanding of the development of historical Scottish writing.

In this paper, I investigate the role of public opinion and De Staël's liberal principles in relation to her psychological image of human nature. De Staël regarded the French Revolution as a new stage of human progress, in which the French people, for the first time, gained a political voice. From her position as a liberal republican, De Staël argues for political progress in the form of civil equality and liberty confirmed by law and political representation, for which public opinion serves as a political tool. I aim to demonstrate that De Staël developed a multi-layered analysis of public opinion as both an emancipatory tool for more equality, justice, and liberty, as well as a discriminating and harmful tool. According to De Staël, human passions play a crucial role in determining the employment and the effects of public opinion, as becomes clear in the case of the trial of Marie-Antoinette.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi pesquisar as preferências dos consumidores pelos principais atributos envolvidos no processo de compra da carne bovina, em Dracena-SP. Assim, foram realizadas 166 entrevistas nas vias públicas da cidade, em julho e agosto de 2017. Para as entrevistas, empregou-se um questionário estruturado. As preferências médias foram determinadas por regressão logística multinomial e os segmentos de mercado foram estimados através da análise de classes latentes. Os resultados mostram que o atributo mais importante no processo da compra da carne bovina é a sua aparência e este é seguido pela data de validade presente na embalagem e o frescor da carne. Apurou-se que existem cinco segmentos de mercado. O maior, que engloba 31,3% dos consumidores, é caracterizado pela importância aferida aos atributos ligados à qualidade organoléptica. O segundo segmento representa a preferência de 18,9% dos consumidores e foram definidos como "preocupados com a saúde", por dar prioridade ao cheiro e frescor da carne. O menor segmento, que corresponde a 8,6% dos consumidores. Para aumentar a aceitação da carne, é preciso cuidar de seu aspecto no ponto de venda e esta deve estar em bom estado de conservação e com data de abate a mais recente possível.

Family farming is challenged by participating in Long Supply Chains. In this context, production processes must be communicated to the market through quality labels. The product's added value increases when concepts related to the labels are known by consumers. The objective of this work was to evaluate consumers' knowledge about quality labeling concepts, in Dracena (São Paulo State). For this, 257 personal interviews were conducted with the help of a structured questionnaire, between April and June 2018. The results indicate that 1/3 of consumers are unaware of organic farming and just over half are unaware of family farming concepts. Quilombo and fair-trade products are virtually unknown in Dracena. There was a positive relationship between educational attainment levels and knowledge of family farming and organic products.
