Data on the magazine subscription patterns of members of the John Birch Society & the Amer's for Democratic Action were collected & compared. Data originated from a mailquestionaire distributed by each of the org's to samples of the nat'l membership during Jul & Aug, 1965. 650 & 770 usable responses, respectively, were obtained. The extent to which members of both org's subscribe to magazines is very similar. But Birchers prefer fam & household magazines, while ADA members prefer cultural magazines. R's tend to prefer interpretations of pol'al events which are congenial to & reinforce their own. Within each org the better educated & those with Hs occup's were more likely to consider news & pol'al magazines most important. This was also true of the most interested, the most active, & those for whom the John Birch Society or ADA was the most important group membership. 2 Tables. M. Maxfield.
