The results of the presidential election held in late May are final. Garnering nearly 97% of the vote, Abdel Fattah al-Sissi was elected 'new pharaoh' of Egypt. This overwhelming score, which is more a matter of the plebiscite that is yet to qualify as a free election. It barely conceals a rather high abstention rate - and this despite an extension of the vote. Faced with little popular enthusiasm, the vote, initially scheduled over two days, was extended to three days. One year after the removal of President Muslim Brother Mohamed Morsi, Abdel Fattah al-Sissi could not abide an abstentionist disavowal. The regime was finally able to move a turnout of around 47%. In 2012, Morsi was elected with 52% of the vote and a turnout of 52%. Adapted from the source document.
