Der Beitrag analysiert die Bedeutung von Musik und Tanz bei der Bewältigung gesellschaftlicher Veränderungsprozesse in der Sukuma-Region im Nordwesten von Tansania. Zu diesen Veränderungen zählten in der Region vor allem Wanderarbeit und Baumwollanbau während der britischen Kolonialzeit zwischen den beiden Weltkriegen. Dabei entstand eine neue bäuerliche Klasse, die musikalische Formen vorangegangener gesellschaftlicher Organisationsformen aufnahm und für ihr Leben als Bauern nutzbar machte. (DÜI-Kör)
