In an age of mass literacy where great portions of a pop may manipulate the symbolic rather than the material environment as an occup, the term 'intellectual' needs more discrete definition. An exploration of the critical-creative personality as a psychol'al type may provide a new basis for the definition of persons properly described as 'intellectual' & give some clues as to their pol'al att's & behavior. The intellectual personality type tends to be well developed in the 'playful,' introspective & symbolic personality components & relatively deficient in the empathetic, projective & 'game' components useful in pol'al relations. Much of this may be due to a relatively uneven, incomplete &/or conflicted soc'ization. The radical pol of many intellectuals may have much to do with this soc'ization experience. IPSA.
