The article by won Wiese (See SA 4790) raises 3 important problems. It seems that he fails to distinguish between the fundamental rights established by the constitution, the notion of freedom of opinion, & that of complete freedom of the press. It is necessary to limit the freedom of the press in order to combat sensationalism, interference with privacy & the like. Couldn't the ideal be a free voluntary central of the profession, similar to the one in the film industry in Germany? A 'Council of the Press' was formed in 1956. One can only wish it the same success as the British Press Council has achieved. There is no need of constitutional changes or of new laws, but simply of a better interpretation of the actual Intentions of the legislator. Tr from IPSA. Adapted from the source document.
