Den Platz lesen. Çapulcu-Figuren des Protests in der Türkei ; Reading the Place. Çapulcu Figures of Protest in Turkey
; The antigovernment protests in Turkey in 2013 were characterized by diverse and mobile practices of resistance that are connected in various ways with media and mediality. In addition to alternative media and counterpublics, rallies and demonstrations, the protests especially used media-aesthetic figures as well as and rhetorical, discursive and visual figures. The article sketches a selection of these protest figures between politics, communication design, advertising, art, and critique. While the use of social media produces has the effect of mobilizing, accelerating, and internationalizing the protests, ironic semiotic tactics carried out by the communication guerrillas act between theft and appropriation, overaffirmation and reversal, and set in motion an antihegemonic game of semiotic multiplicity in the field of bodies and media.

Spielen. Einleitung in den Schwerpunkt ; Introduction to the Theme of Focus Topic: Play
; The special issue is dedicated to play, which the contributions discuss as a political practice with speculative dimensions as well as a potentially violent relationship of power. It becomes clear that alternative futures become imaginable in play, both on the level of individual games and with regard to research in various fields and to social development. At the same time, contributions address the common misunderstanding of play as a nonserious, harmless, and pleasurable activity in analyses of specific power relations and playful fascisms. The introduction to the special issue situates these contributions in the field of game studies and its history.

Universität und Neue Rechte. Geisteswissenschaftliche Positionierungen ; University and New Rights: Positionings in the Humanities
; Extreme nationalist, right-wing, and racist positions have an increasing presence in political discourse, and the new right claims is claiming space in the university with ever-greater urgency. This article focuses on Germany, but similar things could be said about all of Europe and the United States. Grounded in the theories and methods of the humanities, the contribution discusses how this increased presence concerns us as university members. The discussion sketches three dimensions of engaging with the presence of the New Right at the university: analyzing the public debate about how universities have responded to the New Right, developing argumentative positions grounded in academic ethics, and reflecting upon the university's own institutional policies. The argument is conceptualized less as a reaction to the new right than as an engagement with the question of what kind of university we envision.

Practices of Speculation: Modeling, Embodiment, Figuration
In: Edition Kulturwissenschaft
This volume offers innovative ways to think about speculation at a time when anticipation of catastrophe in an apocalyptic mode is the order of the day and shapes public discourse on a global scale. It maps an interdisciplinary field of investigation: the chapters interrogate hegemonic ways of shaping the present through investments in the future, while also looking at speculative practices that reveal transformative potential. The twelve contributions explore concrete instances of envisioning the open unknown and affirmative speculative potentials in history, literature, comics, computer games, mold research, ecosystem science and artistic practice.
